Karen Clarke is the author of multiple works of fiction but is best known for her psychological thrillers that are usually an exploration of the darker side of relationships and life.
Karen was born and brought up in the North Yorkshire town of Scarborough, but she has now been living with her husband and children in Buckinghamshire for years.
She has often said that she writes romantic comedies with the intention of making people smile. Karen has penned more than a dozen romantic comedies and has also co-written thrillers alongside Amanda Brittany her fellow author.
Her stories have been published in prestigious magazines across the United Kingdom and in international markets too.
She published her debut novel “Being Brooke Simmons,” her debut novel in 2014 and has been writing ever since.
Like many novelists, Karen Clarke loved to read a lot when she was a child.
Growing up, her family never owned a television set and hence the only thing she had was her books which developed her passion for reading. She used to head to the library every Saturday where she would pick three books that she usually finished by Monday.
In fact, her mother used to be skeptical that she had read all of the stories but the reality was that she used to read every book from cover to cover.
Even at that very young age when she used to read every day, she always had a conscious urge to write, which probably had its roots in her love of reading.
Since she was very little, she always had in her mind the story of a lonely young fox and when she was eleven, she had one of her poems published in the comic Judy.
In her teenage years, she used to sit with several of her friends at the back of her classes where they would write stories.
Their work would ultimately result in “Pigs in Pink Plastic Mars,” a novella that was still being distributed around school even after they had all graduated.
After graduating from college, Karen Clarke would get sidetracked as she tried to earn a living. Writing would fall by the wayside as she took up all manner of jobs.
For several years she worked as a manager at a pub, as a librarian and newsagent, stocked shelves at the supermarket, worked as a wedding photographer, and even as a bookkeeper and secretary.
But through all this, Clarke never let go of her dream of one day becoming a published author. She used to find her inspiration from some of the romantic authors she used to read in her early years such as Sue Townsend and Adrian Mole.
Things began to ramp up when she became a member of an online writing group and began writing short stories.
She used to submit these short stories to women’s magazines and has now sold more than 300 in the United Kingdom and the global marketplace.
At some point, she was approached by Bookouture, the award-winning publisher with an offer to pen three novels. She published “The Beachside Sweet Shop,” her debut novel of the “Beachside” series for Boukouture in 2017.
She stepped into the dark side in 2019 when she started writing psychological thrillers under HQ/HarperCollins.
When she is not writing her novels, she loves listening to audiobooks and has been known to prolong her journeys just so that she can continue listening to her favorite works.
Karen Clarke also loves to read a lot and somehow also finds the time to fit in plenty of TV watching and film, photography, baking, and walking through the wooded lands around her neighborhood.
It is from these walks that she usually does most of the plotting for her novels.
Karen Clarke’s novel “The Cafe at Seashell Cove” is set in a small cafe where you will always find smiling friendly faces and home-baked cakes that are just plain irresistible.
When Cassie Maitland needs a break from her stressful but glamorous job as an event manager, she heads to Seashell Cove, where she was brought up. Her family runs a cozy little cafe atop the cliffs overlooking the golden sands and sparkling waves.
But things have changed a lot ever since she left as the cafe has been made into a welcoming haven, and her friends Tilly and Meg have whole new lives.
What is even better, Danny her old flame with his winning smile and twinkling eyes makes her feel flustered. She is keen to get back into the rhythm of village life and it is not long before she is running themed events.
One of these is a cat cafe day with all manner of felines which is a complete flop. Fortunately for her, Dany lends a helping hand and Cassie thinks that maybe she could find a new and very exciting life in Seashell Cove.
“The Bakery at Seashell Cove” is an uplifting and absolutely hilarious summer read that tells us to live life to the fullest. The lead in the novel is Meg Larson who believes that she has everything she ever wanted.
She lives in a home in sunny and beautiful Seashell Cove, she is a few months from getting married to her fiance and has a job she loves working at the local bakery.
But then she gets the bad news that the bakery is soon to be sold and discovers that Sam her fiance loves his bikes more than their relationship. When she gets some bad news regarding her family, Sam ignores her calls and is out on a cycling tour.
He had been recently posting all manner of selfies with a female cyclist Meg thinks he is getting too close to. Luckily, Nathan the estate agent for the bakery is funny and understanding and they develop an unexpected friendship over the summer.
When the new owner takes over the bakery and gives it a new lease of life. Meg believes that what she might need most is change.
Karen Clarke’s novel “The Christmas Cafe at Seashell Cove,” tells the very interesting story of Tilly Campbell, the interior designer who loves being single and carefree.
She has been charged with redecorating a local cafe in preparation for a massive party and could not be more excited.
But then her friends inform her that they have some pretty big plans including a pregnancy announcement, a declaration of love, and a proposal and she starts wondering if she might be missing out.
Transforming the cafe is going to be a very difficult and complex challenge and hence when she runs into Seth the gorgeous newcomer, she could not be happier for the distraction.
She is determined to help the single father make his home into a livable place where his son can settle down in time for Christmas. But the cafe is far from being done a few days before Christmas and she is worried that everything will be a total flop.
Will she be able to save the Christmas party and finally find love?
