Karen Ranney
Author Karen Ranney was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is the daughter of an Air Force officer and lived in places all over the world, like Paris and Naples.
She started when she was only five years old. “The Maple Leaf”, her first published work, was read over the school intercom when she was a first grader.
Karen used to carry this big blue book around, holding it in her arms a lot like someone would a doll. She still remembers just how heavy it was and recalls the marks that it would make on her arms. She remembers sitting out on the front steps in Sherman, Texas with the book right next to her. At times, she would sit with it in her lap and open it and slide her fingers over the top of all the words. She would try to match the ones she knew to the ones in the magical book.
She wanted to be a violinist (when she was seven, her parents had a custom made violin built for her) when she was younger. She also wanted to be a teacher, a lawyer, and, most of all, an author. The violin she discarded early on, but she still admits to having a fascination with the law, and will volunteer as a teacher when it is needed. Writing has always remained an overwhelming love for her.
Karen has been nominated nine times for Romantic Times Reviewers’ Chocie and she later won a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award in the year 2002 for British-set Historical Romance.
Karen has written the “Highland Lords” series, the “Clan Sinclair” trilogy, the “Duke” trilogy, the “Maclain” series, and the “Furry Chronicles” as well as some stand alone work. She writes paranormal romance and historical romance, as well as contemporary romantic suspense, one murder mystery. Karen also writes under the name of Katerine Storm.
“One Man’s Love” is the first novel in the “Highland Lords” series and was released in the year 2001. This novel stars Alec Landers and Leitis MacRae. She swore she would hate him…
He was a British colonel in war ravaged Scotland, and her enemy. During his youth, Alec Landers (the Earl of Sherbourne), spent summers only known as Ian, running wild and free out on the Scottish Highlands. Of course, he also fell in love with a tempting woman named Leitis MacRae.
With her lively beauty and blazing spirit, she is the one that still holds his heart in her hands, but revealing his heritage would just condemn them both. Yet while the mysterious man known as Raven, who is an outlaw that protects the people and defies the English, Alec might be Leitis’ hero once more. Even while risking the death of a traitor.
However, he knew that her heart belonged to him.
Leitis MacRae believed the English were unable to do further damage to her clan, however that was before Colonel Alec Landers started living where the MacRaes used to rule. Leitis, in an effort to save the only family that she has left, agrees to become a prisoner inside of her uncle’s place, and willing to face an English colonel in order to spare his life. Alec, with his odd compassion and strength of a soldier, is a rather unwelcome surprise.
Quickly, Leitis cannot help all of the traitorous feelings she has while he is close, or the odd sensation that she knew him somewhere before. While passion and danger lead them both to love, is their bond going to survive his unmasking? Or is Leitis going to choose to score this beloved foe of hers?
“When the Laird Returns” is the second novel in the “Highland Lords” series and was released in the year 2002. This novel stars Alisdair MacRae and Iseabal Drummond. A marriage he never once wanted.
Despite Alisdair MacRae being a descendant of some proud Scottish lairds, he had never seen his ancestral Highland estate, nor did he imagine that he would have to marry in order to reclaim it. Magnus Drummond, the unethical neighboring laird, has taken control of the property and is only willing to relinquish it for a king’s ransom, as well as a groom for Iseabal, his daughter. Alisdair never imagined he would have to give up his unfettered life that he enjoys. Not even for some bride that had sensuous grace and an angelic face that was sure to inflame the desire of any and all males.
A passion that they never dreamed of.
Will Iseabal be a bride without the benefit of a courtship? Despite her yearning for a love match, the determined lass is gladly going to bind herself right to Alisdair should he offer an escape from the cruelty of her dad. This proud and surprisingly tender stranger makes a new fire wake up inside of her, letting a spirit just as brave and adventurous as his own out. Alisdair feels this heat too, but will Iseabal be able to win both his passion and his trust, making sure that both of their dreams come true? Now that the laird has come back?
“The Irresistible MacRae” is the third novel in the “Highland Lords” series and was released in the year 2002. This novel stars James MacRae and Riona McKinsey. In order to avoid a scandal that would leave her family devastated, Riona McKinsey has decided to marry the wrong guy, despite her yearning for James MacRae. Had she not been manipulated into this compromising position by a man from Edinburgh, who covets the wealth of her family a lot more than Riona’s love, she would have been able to follow her heart right into MacRae’s loving and strong arms. However, it is not to be, unfortunately.
James MacRae, a man of the tempest-tossed, wild sea, never imagined he would find his biggest temptation on land. From the moment the dashing adventurer looked deeply into Riona’s haunting gray eyes, he realized there wasn’t a lass in all of Scotland that he would ever want more. She is betrothed to somebody else, and is unwilling to end her engagement of even share the reason why she plans on marrying her intended. How will MacRae be able to ignore the passion that burns like a fire in him, pulling him relentlessly to a love capable of ruining both of them?
