Karen Rose Smith also writes as Karen Hughes, and Kari Sutherland is best-selling American novelist of romance novels. She was born on 21st December in Pennsylvania, and even though she was the only child in her family, Smith remembers still remembers the bonds of an extended family. She her mother and father lived in with her aunt and grandfather until she was five years of age that’s when her parents built a home next door. Since her mother came from a family of seven and her father of ten, there were always uncles, aunts, and cousins visiting her every weekend. In most of the author’s novels, the family is an active theme and attributes this mostly due to her childhood memories.
As a young girl music became vital to her as reading, her favorite music band was The Beatles. Rose and her cousin took their first vacation in writing by co writing a script for The Monkees television program. They made sure that their script was sent to every concert where the group attended that summer. While in college, Rose started writing poems, and she also met the love of her life. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English and French at Shippensburg University in PA. She earned credits in both counseling and English.
She later married her college sweetheart, and they started their married life as teachers, but after giving birth to their first son, she switched to home decoration business which lasted for a short while. She then returned to teaching, but her teaching career was short-lived after she underwent back surgery which led her to discover writing. After writing thirteen complete manuscripts for a period of half a decade, the author sold two books in just one week. She became published in 1991 and since and has written over fifty books under different pseudonyms. She has published with Special Edition and Silhouette Romance, as well as with Kensington’s Precious Gems and Meteor/Kismet.
Rose has won and also been nominated for various awards. For instance, she has won the Golden Quill Award in traditional romance and New Jersey’s Golden Leaf Award for the best short story romance category. Her romance novels have been featured in both Waldenbooks and USA Today bestseller list for series romance.
Rose is a former president of the Central PA Romance Writers and has chaired workshops on character, conflict love, synopsis writing and scenes at national conferences. Currently, the author lives in Pennsylvania with her beloved husband. Their son works as a research scientist based in Oklahoma. The author has always read romance novels since she was a little girl since they end with happily ever after. She understands that every person needs hope from time to time and that is the reason why she writes romance novels.
Staged to Death
Staged to Death is the debut novel in Caprice De Luca Home Mystery written by a best-selling American author of romance novels Karen Rose Smith. When Roz and her beloved husband planned to sell their large castle like home, Caprice is called in to do a staging to facilitate the property sale. However, neither Caprice or Roz can convince Ted to remove his collection of daggers and swords in time for the open castle.
But when Ted is found brutally murdered using his knife, all the suspicions now point to Roz, but Caprice is convinced that her friend did not kill her husband despite the facts that the victim was having an affair. So, Roz decides to do some bits of spying and investigation, and she must prove her innocence before she allows anyone to send her to prison. As expected, the stakes keep on rising, and Caprice could find herself on the victim’s murder list. Roz and Caprice ally and soon discover that Ted had been keeping secrets from his wife Roz, and not just relationship with another lady but many issues at his work place.
However, the fact remains that Roz will require an attorney who sends Caprice back in touch with Grant, a man who she once had feelings for and is now a widower and so the old sparks could give rise to a burning passion between the two. The first novel in the series is a brilliant read. You will enjoy reading about Caprice and her Italian family together with all their quirks, dramas and flaws.
The staging job, which is closer to interior design is a crucial role for those wishing to sell a home. The author has crafted an excellent cast of characters that feel so real and likable. For instance, you will like Caprice for who she is, she loyal, and you will admire not only the hard work she puts into assisting find the killer of her friend’s husband but also the hard work she puts into being a pet owner, good daughter, sister and a friend. The narrative is light, comfortable to read with one compelling mystery, some excellent recipes, and appealing cast.
Deadly Décor
In the second installment, the author Karen Rose Smith takes us back to Pennsylvania to meet Caprice DeLuca. She was first introduced in Staged to Death. She was an interior designer, but after the downward plunge of the economy, she turned to home staging, and she has taken this idea and nurtured it to a prosperous business.
Caprice has forever been very close with her family, and it is no surprise when her friend, Bob, a house painter is found murdered she gets involved. How could she not when her sister Bella and Joe her husband are both the main suspect in Bob’s murder?
Bella had dated Bob back in High School and now finds him dead, and she is also the first person on the scene of the crime, and when Caprice arrives a few minutes later, she finds him covered in blood. The whole family is all involved, but it is also evident that Caprice has not learned her lesson from the first book in the series where she almost got killed tracing the real murderer. Once the amateur sleuth, Caprice begins her investigation she makes the very shocking discovery. Bob that she has never known before and realizes that he had lots of enemies which makes it hard for Caprice to solve the mystery but she will not give up until she proves the innocence of those she loves the most.
