Kari Lee Townsend is a national bestselling American author, who is popular for writing mystery, romance, thriller, and contemporary stories. She is particularly famous for writing two book series, the Samantha Granger Experiment series and the Fortune Teller Mysteries. Also, Townsend has written several women’s fiction and romance standalone novels under the pen name of Kari Lee Harmon. A few of her books are based on tween superheroes and children’s fiction. Townsend has received nominations for many prestigious awards like Golden Duck Award, Agatha Award, and RT Reviewers Choice Award. She was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, and currently resides in central New York. Author Townsend is happily married and is a proud mother of three sons and a daughter. She says that her husband and children are very understanding and supportive toward her writing works. Before entering the world of novel writing, author Townsend used to work as a teacher. An exciting novel series written by author Kari Lee Townsend is known as the Fortune Teller Mystery series. This series consists of a total of 4 novels and 1 novella released between 2011 and 2015. Every book in this series features the main character in the role of Sunshine Meadows. She is depicted as a fortune teller living in New York City and is often referred to as Sunny. She moves to the rural region of Divinity in upstate New York to set up her business of fortune telling. Sunny Meadows uses various tools of fortune telling for interpreting her visions and seeks to help the residents of rural Divinity. Often her tools lead Sunny to a mysterious event that lands her in trouble. But, she finds her way out of all the troubles and continues to work as a fortune teller. People believe whatever she tells them about their fortunes and most of the times they turn out to be true. In addition to Sunny Meadows, the other important characters mentioned by author Townsend in the books include Mitch Stone, Isabel Gonzales, Granny Gert, Fiona Atwater, Morty, and several others.
A very popular book of this series is entitled ‘Corpse in the Crystal Ball’. It was released in 2012 by the Berkley publication. The book begins by showing that Sunshine Meadows discovers something dark in the nearby woods. Following her previous encounter with the police in which she successfully proved her innocence in a murder case, she hopes to live her days with serenity in Divinity. Sunny also looks forward to getting close to Detective Mitch Stone as she likes him very much. But, her chances of getting along with Mitch diminish with the arrival of the gorgeous ex-girlfriend of Mitch, Isabel Gonzales. Later, Isabel goes missing and police approach Sunny to assist in finding her. She uses her psychic visions to locate Isabel’s dead body in the woods. The police also find a note written by Isabel in the dirt that hinted at Mitch as her murderer. Sunny Meadows knows that Mitch cannot do such a terrible thing. So, she begins to look for the real murderer and save the man she has started to love from getting wrongly accused of murder. In doing so, she also becomes a target of the brutal killer. Subsequently, Sunny tries to save both herself and Mitch Stone and catch the real killer.
Another interesting book of this cozy mystery series is called ‘Trouble in the Tarot’. The Berkley publishing released this book in 2013. At the start, it is mentioned Sunny is happy to see that her business is going very well in Divinity. Another reason for her happiness is that she has started dating Mitch Stone, the man of her dreams. She sets up her stall at the Summer Solstice Carnival in DIvinity and reads tarot cards for her customers. While doing the same for Granny Gert, she sees a vision about Granny’s arch nemesis Fiona Atwater being involved in a violent argument. Later, when the squabbles of Fiona and Granny spread in every corner of the town, Sunny knows something shocking is about to happen. Shortly after, a local resident gets crushed by a Cadillac and as Granny Gert and Fiona are discovered at the scene, they become involved in the murder investigation. As a result, Sunny also gets involved and is required to indulge in solving another mystery in spite of being hesitant to take up any such thing again.
