Kate Kingsbury is one of the three pen names given by the novelist Doreen Roberts Height, who is British by birth and works in the genre of Romance, and Mystery & Thrillers. She was born on October 24 in London, England and that was the time of world war II. Most of the wartime of her childhood was spent in London in places like air raid shelters and school. Her art of storytelling started during the time of war. When everyone got scared because of the noises outside, she used to start telling stories and this went on and became a regular. Her first story was printed when she was 8 years old and it was printed in the British National Newspaper. After that the second one came when she was in her late fifties. In between these years she was working along with her sister on the stage, which was a short career and after that she emigrated to the United States. Thus her stage career came to an end, but still on the British night of every month she used to sing and play piano at an English-style local pub. Apart from this she has worked as an executive manager, office manager, an accountant, a receptionist and also a salad maker in some restaurant. When the first prototype of the computer came on the market she worked on that too. In 1968 her son was born and she stayed home for few months at that time and her interest in writing was renewed. In 1987, Silhouette Books accepted her first manuscript and in this served as the beginning of her new career.
The first book that author Kingsbury wrote was on a typewriter. She often says that she is writer today because of the computers. She says that only a few people had access to chat room back then and it included writers, business people, etc. Chat room came into her life as a salvation when her thirty year marriage ended. She agrees that chat room was the place where she found companionship that brought her friendship and in the end finally love. She used to live on the west coast and her new love on the east and this was during 1993 and the usage of the computer was charged per minute. Soon their phone as well as computer bills together started to cross $1500 each month and then they decided they should get together as it would be cheaper. At the airport in Portland of Oregon, they met for the first time and a year later they got married in Las Vegas. Cozy mystery novels have been written by her in the pen name of Kate Kingsbury and also in the pen name of Allison Kinsley and Rebecca Kent she has written many mysteries.
