An American author of much repute, the writer and speaker Kate Messner has been writing for a number of years now, with her unique brand of witty and insightful novels, having created global bestsellers on numerous occasions. Appreciated both nationally and internationally, she has also achieved critical acclaim, as well as commercial with her award winning books being nominated and gaining plaudits a number of times. Speaking at events such as the prestigious Ted in 2012 as well, she is no stranger to the stage and public speaking either, with her giving a number of talks across America, all whilst continuing to write her many historical, mystery and children’s novels for an ever eager public.
Early and Personal Life
Born in the United States of America, where she has lived for all of her life, the author Kate Messner always had a strong passion for the written word. Whether it was reading or writing, from a very early age she showed a keen interest and love of literature and language. Taking this with her throughout her life, she’d develop and nurture this passion over the years, creating a more honed and refined voice.
With an education in literature as well, she managed to hone her craft over the subsequent years in a more academic setting as well. Building on her voice and her style, she worked at developing her style that was going to make her career in her writing career to follow. This would also help her to become more idiosyncratic and unique in her outlook, making her stand out from the rest in the process.
Previously working as a middle school teacher for over fifteen years, she came to gain a greater understanding and level of insight into her writing. With her experience she was able to build upon her career and her material, something which allowed her to further develop her voice in the process. It was then in 2006 that she earned herself the National Board Certification for her efforts, something which also helped her.
Currently living by Lake Champlain in America, where she resides with her family, she still writes to this present day. Taking the time out, though, she enjoys spending a lot of time outdoors seeking inspiration for her next book, whilst partaking in numerous activities. With plenty more books set to be released in the pipeline, she has a lot more to come yet, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.
Writing Career
Bringing out her first book in 2007, she released her debut historical novel for younger readers, titled Spitfire: A North Country Adventure, to much acclaim. Bringing it out through the North Country Books publishing label she managed to make a considerable impact upon the literary scene. The book also allowed her to establish herself as a children’s author of some repute, as she managed to set the tone of her writing to follow.
Creating a number of children’s novels, she’s managed to carver herself a career from being a gifted author of books for the young. With a collection of mystery series under her belt, such as the ‘Silver Jaguar Mysteries Society’ and the ‘Marty McGuire’ franchises, she’s got an extensive list of titles to her name. Building a whole backlog of work, she has become one of the most prolific writers currently in her field to date.
Winning numerous awards for her work as well, she has received not just commercial success, but critical acclaim as well. Gaining a number of nominations, such as the E.B. White Read Aloud Award for Older Readers in 2010, along with many others, she has made an important and influential name for herself within the industry. Not only that, but she has also managed to top the bestseller lists on many occasions as well, with her work reaching both national and international audiences worldwide.
Taking a Ted talk at their prestigious 2012 conference, she took to the stage giving a talk on ‘how to build a fictional world’. This has been viewed online by millions, making her a highly influential and important voice within her area. Teaching her craft, she continues to speak to this very day, spreading her ideas and knowledge to other young and aspiring authors.
Still writing to this day, she continues to put out her unique brand of witty and engaging children’s literature for a worldwide audience. Living in Lake Champlain she still keeps herself fit and active, whilst continuing to put out more books than ever. With plenty more books set to be released on the horizon, there’s a lot more to come from this author in the following years to come.
Manhunt
The third title in the ‘Silver Jaguar Society Mysteries’ series, this was initially brought out in 2014 on the 24th of June through the Scholastic Press publishing label. With the series already well under way by this point and it’s premise and characters already being firmly established, it goes straight into the action. Giving the young readers more of what they’ve come to expect, it works well at capturing the essence of what made the first two work, whilst also providing something new in the process.
Leading an investigation into the theft of the world’s greatest and most important masterpieces, three children are on the case. Heading out to Paris from their home in Boston, Jose, Henry and Anna seek to uncover this nefarious international mystery. That’s when senior members of the Silver Jaguar Society start to disappear and, not only that, but there’s also a double agent within their midst too. Will they be able to track down the culprits? Can they get back the masterpieces? What will become of them on their manhunt?
All the Answers
Originally published in 2015 on the 27th of January through the Bloomsbury USA Children’s publishing label, this was brought out as a stand-alone title. With Messner already well established now as an author, this is a book where she’s clearly at her peak, with a clear and confident style. It also gives already loyal readers more of what they’ve now come to expect, whilst also trying out something new in the process.
Finding a magic pencil that can provide answers to any factual question, school-pupil Ava Anderson starts to learn its true power. Able to give the answer to anything fact based, but not telling the future, she starts to understand more about her and her family. With her friend Sophie as well, she quickly comes to realize that maybe there are some things that are best kept hidden. Will she learn the truth behind her family? What will become of her once the pencil runs out? Can she live without all the answers?
