“My Son, John” is the first stand alone novel and was released in 2009. Could there be a more chilling word than murder? Could it be any more terrible than to have a loved one killed, heartlessly and brutally, without any obvious motive or reason for it? Liz Peterson’s elderly mom is found having been viciously beaten to death in her own home, Liz and Charles (her husband), along with John (their grown son) and Sarah (their teen daughter) are terrified beyond words. Their formerly respectable and predictable lives appear to have vanished without a single trace, while they struggle to make any sense of this senseless act.
And then there is a second blow that is even more devastating, if that’s even possible, than the first and it rocks them to their core. John’s arrested for his grandma’s murder. As what is left of the Peterson family starts to crumble under the weight of accusation and loss, the Petersons’ longstanding Christian faith gets put to the test in a way that they never could’ve imagined, and unconditional love gets stretched to its very limits. Can God bring healing to a family that’s been ripped apart by such a brutal crime?
“Valeria’s Cross” is the second stand alone novel and was released in 2010. During the 3rd century, Valeria (a pampered Roman princess) falls in love with Mauritius, a captain of the Theban Legion. She sends him off into battle, where he suffers under the schemes of this notorious pagan general with a lust for Valeria and an ambition for power.
In this scene that is based on true events, the evil Galerius murders Mauritius and his whole legion for their Christian faith. And in a stunning turn of events, the grieving Valeria is forced to marry Galerius against her will. Never has a marriage been set up for such a failure.
Valeria loathes this new husband of hers, however he appears to undergo this change of heart, adopting a kid for her and giving her authority and power, and love, even. She struggles with the commitment that she knows she has to keep, and the love that she knows she won’t ever find again.
“No Greater Love” is the first novel in the “Extreme Devotion” series and was released in 2010. Forbidden romance, one unlikely martyr, and an even more unlikely hero.
Chioma (age 16) and Masozi (her brother, age 15) were orphaned four years ago after their parents, active in the African National Congress movement against apartheid, got murdered. They now live and work on some Afrikaner family’s farm. When Chioma and Andrew (the farm owner’s son) find themselves being attracted to each other, tragedy revisits their lives.
Chioma escapes in order to join some ANC rebel band in her attempt to survive and gain some revenge for her culture and family. Cultures clash in life-or-death struggles, Chioma has to choose between revenge and violence, or selfless love and forgiveness.
Loosely based on historical events and is set close to Pretoria, South Africa, in all the violent upheaval that led up to ANC leader Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in 1990 and his subsequent ascendance to the presidency of South Africa, this tale of forbidden romance produces one unlikely martyr who gets replaced by one that’s even more unlikely.
“Deliver Me From Evil” is the first novel in the “Freedom” series and was released in 2011. “Deliver Me From Evil” introduces the reader to Mara, this 18 year old girl that has been enslaved for nearly a decade, having been sold by her parents in Mexico before being smuggled across the border into San Diego where she got forced into sexual slavery.
Readers are also going to meet Jonathan (18 years old and Bible college bound) and Leah (Jonathan’s 16 year old sister) whose paths cross with Mara’s and get involved in her dramatic rescue.
Interwoven between the stories of Leah, Jonathan, and Mara is the heartbreaking story of another young woman being held captive in the Golden Triangle of Thailand, whose previous life mysteriously connects to the young people in San Diego.
“The Moses Quilt” is the first novel in the “Quilt” series and was released in 2012. This is a contemporary novel which bridges generational and racial divides. A compassionate and realistic glimpse into a 21st century dilemma.
Mazie Hartford, an apprehensive and confused young woman, must wrestle with this nagging question about her family’s past and what the Bible teaches. She discovers the answer to her questions in a most unexpected way: her great-grandma’s Moses quilt.
While her great-grandma starts explaining how each of the patches represents a story of freedom and bravery, Mazie has to figure out if she’s got the courage and freedom to overcome her own personal prejudices and fears.
“The Doctor’s Christmas Quilt” is the second novel in the “Quilt” series and was released in 2013. Dr. Laura Branson’s unwed medical school daughter tells her that she’s pregnant, and Laura is torn between fear and excitement. Up until this point, her beliefs and stance on pro-life issues have been far more theoretical than personal.
It is not until she gets a Christmas gift: a quilt which portrays the life of pioneer Elizabeth Blackwell, who was the first female doctor in America, that she is forced to wrestle with her beliefs. What does she truly believe, and is she going to be brave enough to stand by her own convictions?
