Kathleen MacMahon is a published Irish author and journalist.

She is an award-winning former radio and television journalist who was employed by RTE, Ireland’s national broadcaster. There she would make reports on the largest international stories.

Kathleen was born in Ireland. Much of her childhood was spent in Brazil and Nicaragua before she came back to Dublin along with her family. She studied English and History at UCD, going on to get her Masters in European Studies at Cambridge University.

Kathleen would then work for RTE for fifteen years and won a National Media Award for her reporting. She would be at the daily News at One program for five years before moving to the foreign desk and reporting on world events for television.

She is the granddaughter of Mary Lavin, the short story writer. She is married to her husband and they live together in Dublin along with their twin daughters. Her debut novel came out in 2012 and is titled This Is How It Ends. The book was published in twenty countries and hit number one bestselling status in Ireland, where it stayed for five weeks. Since then the book has been translated into 22 languages and counting, giving a wide variety of readers the opportunity to enjoy this book.

The debut novel was a sensation at the London Book Fair in 2011. There it was purchased by Little Brown Book group in the United Kingdom and Grand Central Publishing in the United States. The book was shortlisted for the Kerry Group Irish Book of the Year Award and was also shortlisted for two Bord Gáis Energy Iris Book Awards. It was selected as a runner-up by the public in the Liveline listeners poll for Book of the Year 2012.
