Known for having an interest in knitwear and designing it, she has also created a number of titles within this field as well. Published in over fifty different magazines as well, she’s managed to build a profile all across the industry, establishing both her name and her brand as one of importance.

Early and Personal Life

Born in 1953 on the first of January, Kathleen Taylor grew up in the area with a strong affinity for the written word from a very early age. Showing a keen passion for both reading and writing, she quickly took to literature, nurturing and developing it over the subsequent years to follow. Over time, she would also take in a number of different inspirations from her many experiences, all of which she would feed back into her work.

Educated at an academic level, she soon started to build upon the foundations of her creative writing, giving it her voice. Along with this she was also interested in knitwear design, something which she would also come to write about in the years to follow. Creating both her style and her tone, she slowly begun to mold her voice into the idiosyncratic and unique one that it currently is today.

Working as a knitwear designer on a freelance basis as well as writing, she has created many of her own designs, a number of which have appeared in over fifty magazines. Being a leading voice within this industry, she has created a name for herself as one of the top designers in her field. This has all fed back into her fiction as well, showing a number of different creative outlets for her and her many novels.

Currently living in South Dakota, Redfield, she still writes to this day, with more and more books released with every passing year. Not only that, but she still remains keen member of the knitwear community, providing her designs on top of her extensive books on the subject. With plenty more novels still to come as well, there’s a lot more potential for this particular author to expand and grow yet.

Writing Career

Releasing her first book, Funeral Food, in 1993, she started off her career with an original franchise, thus establishing her presence on the literary scene. Published through Avon Books originally, it set the tone of what was to come with her fiction, marking her as a writer to watch in the mystery genre. It also allowed her readers to get into the forthcoming ‘Tory Bauer Mystery’ series, setting up a new leading character in the process.

The ‘Tory Bauer Mystery’ series itself is one of her most popular franchises to date, with over six titles in the series so far. Introducing the now iconic character of of Tory Bauer, it features the story of a diner waitress who also uses her deductive skills to solve crimes. With an almost larger than life personality, she is both sassy and witty, something which her many readers have come to appreciate over the years.

Gaining not just commercial success, though, but critical acclaim as well, she has managed to garner plaudits from far and wide. Garnering the respect of both her peers and her contemporaries, she’s managed to gain the attention of many judges for her work. With nominations and awards, she’s successfully built a legacy that’s both bestselling and universally respected too.

Writing for numerous magazines, her knitwear designs have become highly prolific over the years, building her an audience beyond her fiction. With a lot more to come from this particular author it would appear that she’s not stopping anytime soon either. Continuing to write, whilst simultaneously being a highly prolific vocal authority on knitwear design, she has a lot more to come. This will carry on into the foreseeable future, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength, and will continue to do so for some time yet.

Hotel South Dakota

The third title in the Tory Bauer Mystery novel series, this was originally published in 1997 on the first of March through the Avon publishing label. Following on from the previous novel it continues directly with the story of Tory Bauer, the Delphi based diner waitress come amateur sleuth living out in South Dakota. With the style and the tone having already been well established, it manages to recapture the essence of the previous novel and what made it work, whilst simultaneously standing on its own two feet in the process.

Set around a high-school reunion in Delphi, it sees Tory Bauer meeting up with a group of her old school classmates years after her 1969 homecoming. During that homecoming a leading football player was drowned, along with the homecoming king and queen disappearing around the same time. Now, as if history’s repeating itself, it seems that another man has been drowned during the reunion and it is up to Tory Bauer to get to the bottom of it. Will she be able to uncover the truth? Who or what is causing all these deaths? Can she learn what’s really going on at the Hotel South Dakota?

Mourning Shift

Initially published in 1998 on the first of October, this was to be the follow up to the previous book in the series, making up the fourth title in the ongoing Tory Bauer franchise. First brought out through the Avon publishing label, it carries on from where the last left off, providing another investigation for the intrepid diner waitress come amateur sleuth. With the protagonist of Tory Bauer already firmly established, it manages to build upon the previous novels, whilst creating something unique to itself as well.

With Halloween on the horizon, Tory Bauer is a bit down in the dumps, something which is starting to show in her service. That’s when a mysterious elder gentleman happens to pass away in the rest-room of the cafe and, not only that, he just happens to be the long estranged husband of the present cafe owner. That’s when Tory Bauer realizes it’s up to her once again to solve the case and capture the killer to save the day. Will she be able to find the killer before it’s too late? What connection does the killer have to the cafe owner? Can Tory Bauer find out before her mourning shift?
