Kathryn Mykel
Kathryn Mykel, inspired by the fanciful and laugh out loud aspects of cozies, aims to write humorous and lighthearted cozies surrounding her passions for the craft of quilting. Born and grew up in a tiny New England town, Kathryn is an avid quilter.

“Sewing Suspicion” is the first novel in the “Quilting Cozy” series and was released in 2021. A patchwork of white lies and secrets. Can Alex possibly string the truth together before her life totally unravels? Alex Bailey’s heart feels pretty threadbare at the moment. Struggling with the dubious practices of her NYC law firm, she has left her high profile career behind and is rather eager to clear her conscience with a trip back home in order to care for the woman that raised her.

However once an ill fate befalls this quilting matriarch, this shocked lawyer suspects that somebody is covering up a murder. Alex starts unpicking the strands of her beloved grandma’s life, and patches together some clues which prove that her loved one’s death wasn’t just some accident. As the practice’s stained history weaves into the devious handiwork of this culprit, she will need to survive just long enough in order to expose this heartless murderer.

Can Alex really get to the bottom of this sinister pattern before winding up buried in somebody’s flower garden?

Winner of the Indie Cozy Mystery Tribe Book of the Year Award in 2021.

Kathryn delivers a cute and quick cozy mystery with some excellent characters and a pretty intriguing mystery. Readers liked seeing how Alex’s New York life gets woven into this story instead of just adding a reason to bring her back home. Readers were sad when Granny gets killed, because they were just beginning to like her.

“Quilting Calamity” is the second novel in the “Quilting Cozy” series and was released in 2022. A string of clues and a quilting calamity. Will Alex be able to untangle all of the knots before she is keeled? After the death of her beloved grandma, her life is now in tatters. While struggling to stitch things back together, she takes solace in one last gift (a cruise), which was booked before the quilting matriarch died. In order to weave the quilting community back together, Alex is able to convince her buddies on Spruce Street to join her on this cruise.

With a mysterious quilt, all hands on deck, and one unknown destination; Alex is going to have to trust that everything is going to go according to plan. Until this death onboard the Tranquility puts a wrinkle in Alex’s idyllic quilting vacation. Unraveling all of the mysterious threads which surround the young man’s death, Alex has to determine if it is death by design or just a horrible accident. She loosens the knot of suspicion and provides the bait needed in order to hook a ruthless killer, while determined to catch this culprit. Is she going to be able to follow this pattern and untangle this nautical mystery before there is a storm at sea?

Winner of the Indie Cozy Mystery Tribe Book of the Year Award in 2022.

“Pressing Matters” is the third novel in the “Quilting Cozy” series and was released in 2022. A trail of deception and pressing matters. Can Alex pick this mystery apart before she is pinned?

Alex Bailey, with a misadventure after another, is determined to iron her troubles out and find the common thread in order to steer her life back on track. Returning to normalcy is the absolute best way to mend her frayed nerves, and the charity Quilt-A-Thon is a perfect distraction. What Alex cannot expect is more of Nona’s ploys.

Unexpected clues, mysterious deliveries, and this old murder have weaved quite a troublesome web and Alex is tangled right in the middle. The quilters find this unexpected secret on Spruce Street, one which cannot merely be covered up with some artistic motif. As one mystery gets solved, another more deadly pattern emerges. Can Alex piece this pattern together, or is somebody she loves going to get pinned for this crime?

This is the third novel in a series of Quilting Cozy Mysteries. For those that like intriguing whodunits, then you are sure to love this sharply spun story.

“Threading Trouble” is the fourth novel in the “Quilting Cozy” series and was released in 2023. Threading trouble and one act of murder. Can Alex Bailey possibly secure the part before she gets upstaged?

Alex Bailey’s life is embroidered with uncertainty, since there are many more questions than answers. This invitation to some theater dedication in Nona’s name draws Charlotte and Alex to Mishap, Georgia. With yet another murder mystery for her to solve, Alex gets some unwanted help, Kibbles finds this troublesome partner in crime, and Charlotte sees this chance to take control of her own life.

In this trip that is threaded with drama, can Alex possibly deliver her lines and catch this killer before the final act? And is meeting Liam going to finally answer all of her questions?

“A Load of Trouble” is the first novel in the “Washy Time Laundromat Cozy Mystery” series and was released in 2023. Irony is the exact opposite of wrinkly. A load of trouble and a basket of suspects. Can Matty and her family possibly iron out the wrinkled truth before she is the next stain?

What do a cross-eyed cat, a flaky paper goods tester, a dumpster diving thrifter, a hunting guide, and an octogenarian with mad skills possibly have in common? The death of a laundromat owner and an 85th birthday party.

Diving for some unique finds to make some one-of-a-kind wind chimes, in Whistle Stop, Vermont is only a tiny load of Matty’s day, when amateur sleuthing threatens to drown her in some dirty laundry. Can she possibly wring out these clues in order to catch the culprit in her trailer park, or is she going to tap out with the wash water?

For readers that like lots of suspects, wacky characters, and some unique hobbies, so check out this whodunnit mystery.
