Katie Flynn is a published author and the pen name used by Judy Turner. She has written under a few different pen names, including Judith Arden, Lydia Balmain, Judy Turner, and Judith Saxton.

Born in 1936 in Norwich, Turner went to high school locally. She says that she made it into print a while before the other authors her age, getting published at eight.

When she got older, she decided that she wanted to join a writing group. She joined a writing circle and it helped not only inspire and focus her but got her started on writing short stories and articles and working on her writing. She started writing novels in 1971, but only because there was a strike that got rid of her main income and this was the catalyst for her to turn to fiction.

She has enjoyed writing her Katie Flynn books and has said that writing them was ‘a delight’. Writing under this pen name has been very fulfilling for the author and the titles that were published under this pseudonym have ended up selling quite a few copies and doing very well.

Under her different pen names she was able to release around 90 books. 27 of those novels were composed under the name of Flynn. She passed away in 2019.

Katie Flynn is the creator and the author of the fictional series, the Liverpool Family Saga. This series kicked off for the first time in 1993 with the release of the debut novel, A Liverpool Lass. The second book to come out was released the same year. If you are looking for historical fiction stories that keep you involved until you are reading to the end to find out what happens, give this series a try.

A Liverpool Lass is one of the early novels released under Flynn’s name. If you have been searching for a distinctive fictional series that is set in the past and takes you back to another era, then this is the novel for you!

The setting is Liverpool in England and the year is 1905. The month is December, and it is the dead of winter. Dawn is breaking on a morning that is blustery with wind and raw, and this is the time when a newborn baby is placed at an orphanage’s front door. This baby girl has been abandoned but placed at the steps where she can be hopefully taken in and cared for.

It is a better fate than other infants have met, and the foundling is so cute and helpless that something surprising happens. The baby is not only taken in but the maid that works there, Nellie McDowell, decides to adopt this infant and will raise her up just like an authentic biological sister.

The years that come after see Nellie do her best to take care of Lilac as she grows from an infant to a young girl. They become very close and the maid of all work does her best to try and guide and love this orphan just like they were siblings. It is like they really are sisters because of how much they care for each other. But even though Nellie gave Lilac a step up in the world and it’s better than nothing, it does not mean that their situation is entirely advantageous.

The two face a shared struggle as they attempt to try and simply survive. Their lot is one of poverty, and it grinds the energy out of the. It is a very tough life and even though the two girls have each other, even they know that they will not be able to lean on the other one forever and make it through on that shared support alone.

The country and the times are also relentlessly moving forward. Nellie is excited to find that she has a whole new world of romantic prospects open to her and hopes to find love. Even as she becomes an established young woman, she still has not found someone that has not betrayed her. The more that she needs love in her life, the more she finds that it is eluding her.

As the promise of an incoming war starts to come in, the girls may just find that they are more divided than ever before. Thanks to the stress that the country is going through and the events that may happen as a result, can these two sisters stay together even as war beckons?

They are about to find out that Liverpool and England itself is about to lose more men from their ranks than they ever anticipated. An entire generation is about to be affected by a great world war that may end up taking everything. Can the two make it through these tough times and not be crunched by the grinding wheel of poverty? Pick up a copy of this novel to find out!

The Girl From Penny Lane is another incredible work from an author that is known for engaging historical fiction! If you loved the debut, check out another intriguing Liverpool Family story for yourself.

Meet Kitty Drinkwater, a young woman that lives off of Burlington Street in Liverpool. She resides at a place called Paradise Court, but her life does not live up to the name.

Liverpool brings a tough life for her following the years of the great world war’s end. Kitty finds that she’s always starving and has only rags to wear. She’s the oldest child in her family and takes her drunken mother’s rages while dreaming of running off to find a life that is better than the one she lives.

It’s nothing like the life of Lilac Larkin. This beautiful young woman is assured and self-possessed. She has a nice job working as a maid. But when that comes to a close and she starts up working at a factory, she hopes that her life continues to hold that same promise.

When the two meet at a millinery store by accident, they have no idea that fate may have something in store for them. When their lives change, will Lilac and Kitty find support in each other? Read this book to find out!
