Katie Ganshert is an American Award-Winning author that writes Christian fiction. Katie started out as a fifth-grade teacher before finally giving in to her desire to write full-time.

+Biography

Katie Ganshert was born and raised in the Midwest. She eventually settled there with her own family.
The author’s literary works have been heavily influenced by her own personal history and the trials she has faced.

Even though she is well known for her Christian messages, Katie did not grow up in an overly religious home. The family would go to Church every few Sundays. And Katie and her brother were enrolled in religion class.

However, Katie Ganshert never gave much thought to the idea of Christianity. She definitely didn’t think much of the Bible and its rules. Things changed when the author’s parents got divorced.

At first, the family seemed to give up on religion altogether. But then Katie’s parents turned their lives around. Her father became a born-again Christian while her mother joined and committed her life to the Mormon Church.

Katie’s own personal life did not change, though. Things continued as they had always been until she got to college. And then the unexpected happened. The author, for no particular reason that she can think of, decided to open the bible her father had given her for her graduation.

The chapters she read transformed her entire outlook. She immediately committed her life to the Christian faith. And once she began to produce fiction, Katie Ganshert made it her goal to tell stories that presented the transformative message that assaulted her on her dorm room floor that one random day.

While Katie does not set out to preach and while her stories are designed to entertain, she makes a point to craft her plots in a way that leads readers to the Christian faith.

The author credits her husband Ryan for the support he gave her when she decided to finally focus her efforts on writing. Katie was working as a receptionist when the two of them met.

The author went to college in Madison. She had her sights set on Psychology. If she had her way, she would graduate and become a therapist. However, she quickly realized just how exorbitant the out-of-state tuition fees were.

To resolve her financial woes, Katie took a year off and got a job. She became a receptionist for a real estate company. Ryan was a delivery man at the time. They met because she always signed the packages he brought.

And Katie remembers being enthralled by him everytime he walked through the door. She was quite surprised when he asked her out one random day. It took a few years before they finally married.

The couple wasn’t too keen on having children in the beginning. Katie’s parents came from large Irish Catholic families so she was all too happy to put the idea of children on hold when she first married Ryan.

They were young at the time and they thought it best to enjoy their youth while they could, before kids came into the picture. The plan was to wait five years before trying to get pregnant.

Katie and Ryan only made it to four years before the urge to procreate kicked in. By 2008, the author was pregnant. She thought her journey to a happy family life had finally begun.

And she was ready to start trying for additional babies. However, Baby number 2 never came. Katie and Ryan kept trying. They went to every doctor they knew. They invested in fertility drugs but nothing worked.

Katie never got the second baby she wanted. Eventually, she and her husband made peace with their situation and embraced adoption, making way for a family far different from what they might have imagined as a young couple.

+Literary Career

Katie Ganshert’s literary journey began in elementary school. Her third-grade teacher read her a story about Mr. and Mrs. Leaf that sparked her imagination. Several years later, the author took a trip to Kenya that left her haunted with the images of what she had seen, so much so that when she finally got back home, she couldn’t find peace until she sat down and wrote a full-length novel inspired by her trip.

Katie thought she had a literary hit on her hands. However, her attempts at getting her first novel published were ended by a number of quick rejections. The author was already married at the time, this while still going to college.

She had quite the full plate, so she put her novel aside and moved on. She finished her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, got her teaching degree and started teaching fifth graders.

In 2008, while Katie was pregnant, her desire to write was ignited once more. So she wrote her second novel. This time, rather than simply submitting her book and waiting for the rejection letters, she decided to immerse herself in the world of publishing, learning everything there was to know about agents and editors.

Armed with new information, Katie revised her first two books, wrote two more and then she attended the American Christian Fiction Writers Association Conference in 2009. She met critique partners who would serve her immensely over the years, not to mention connecting with Rachelle Gardner, an agent that got her a book deal and pushed her onto the path to publishing success.

+The Gifting

Tess Eckhart’s parents pack up their bags and move across the country after she has a complete freak out at a high school party. Tess doesn’t blame their determination to set up shop next to a renowned facility for the mentally ill. She knows she’s crazy.

That doesn’t stop her from working hard to fit into her new school, a task that is complicated by Luka Williams, a popular boy who keeps fixing her with the most intense stares.

Things take a turn for the bizarre when crazy dreams begin to haunt Tess, dreams that might have something to do with Luka.

+The Awakening

Tess Eckhart thought she was crazy. But now she knows better. She knows that she is part of the Gifting along with Luka Williams. Now she is ready to find out what that means.

A series of events send Luka and Tess on the run from the authorities. They make it their mission to find an underground community of people like them, a community whose objective it is to find and awaken as many people with the Gifting as they can.

The work won’t be easy, and Tess suspects that many perils await them. But Luka seems certain that he can protect her.
