Katie Lane was one of those kids you knew who always had their heads up in the clouds. She couldn’t stop dreaming. She loved creating interesting worlds with curious characters who would play out fascinating scenarios.

Of course, most children are prone to daydreaming or even creating imaginary friends. However, Katie was a little different. Sure, she dreamt of being a princess but her prince in shining armor would always pick her up on a three-legged horse. The author wasn’t too keen on following those most common clichés and tropes. In fact, Katie Lane thought ordinary was boring, which is why her stories often took a quirky turn.

It wasn’t out of the norm to find the author playing a busy mother of ten children instead of hosting dinner parties with her dolls. Naturally, none of these traits immediately marked the author out as a candidate for possible publishing success. Most people just thought she was quirky.

Those who were a little more attentive might have noticed that, besides dreaming in her head, Katie Lane actually loved telling stories. The author can probably trace that particular passion back to fifth grade. That was when she wrote her first ever short story.

Katie remembers it because she read it to her friends and classmates and they loved it. In fact, they laughed at the humorous tale. Katie realized in that moment that she loved telling stories to others and, more importantly, she loved making an impression through those stories.

While Katie was clearly hooked on the attention her stories attracted at a young age, there still wasn’t much to suggest that she would go the way of publishing. In fact, high school saw Katie completely give up on her storytelling passion. She was too caught up in the rush of her hormones to hone her skills.

Eventually, life took over. Katie finished her schooling. She got married and even had children, and she still hadn’t made any headway with her publishing dreams. It wasn’t until the author’s children started high school that she finally pushed all the excuses aside, sat down and got some real writing done.

Katie wasn’t especially enthused when she first engaged in the publishing arena. The author wrote many novels and received many rejection letters before she finally landed an agent who, in turn, got her a decent book deal.

It was a journey rather than the overnight hop to success Katie was hoping for. She had to persevere but her hard work paid off and she learned so many lessons along the way.

The author’s novels are easy enough to recognize. She is always writing about alpha heroes, handsome and ostensibly strong men who eventually reveal that they have soft and kind hearts.

This motif isn’t that hard to understand. After all, many of these characters are based on Katie Lane’s husband. According to Katie, her man fits the mold of her alpha heroes. He is large and pretty gruff. However, he definitely has a heart of gold.

Katie loves the contrast; the tough skin hiding a tender interior. The structure makes for interesting and dramatic storytelling.

When Katie Lane isn’t writing, she is hanging out with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also loves to read. Some of her hobbies include traveling, riding motorcycles and playing golf.

Shirlene doesn’t know who Billy Wilkes truly is. She doesn’t know that Billy has a plan in mind, one that will wipe the town off the map. But she is about to find out.

This Katie Lane novel throws two disparate individuals together in an arrangement that neither of them planned for or expected. Shirlene is a favorite amongst fans of the first two books in the ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas’ series.

Shirlene loses her husband in book 2, and this, the third book, finds her trying to pick up the pieces. She is no longer the trophy wife readers knew in book two. However, she is determined to remain positive even as she slowly but surely begins to lose everything.

Billy is a part of the little town. Everyone loves him and they have accepted him as one of their own. None of them know that his personality is mostly an act. Billy’s plans are thrown into chaos when Shirlene comes into the picture.

Brianne Cates couldn’t wait to hit the road. Her four over-protective brothers made life somewhat unbearable. So Brianne was more than ready to go wild once she got the freedom she so dearly desired.

Brianne’s taste of freedom is hampered when she encounters and gets on the wrong side of an attractive sheriff. Brianne is duly arrested and handed a sentence of community service. However, Brianne is determined to explore every facet that her newfound freedom has to offer, regardless of what Dusty Hicks has to say.
