Katrina Kahler lives with her husband, their two teen children, their ginger cat and golden retriever in Queensland Australian on the beautiful sunshine coast. She lives on a 10-acre plot of land where she enjoys her country life with her son and daughter who cannot get enough of riding motorcycles and horses. From the experiences on the farm, she has written several novels based on true stories. These stories are to be found in the “Diary of a Motorcycle Crazy Boy” and “Diary of a Horse Mad Girl” which have resulted in many of her fans falling in love with her family too. Kahler’s “My New Life” tells of a twelve-year-old girl named Emmie with a special talent. Her mom calls her gifted, but she does not think mind reading is that much of a gift given how much trouble she often ends up in. Most of the other girls in school avoid her as they think she is creepy. This means that she has had to change school often and be lonelier than ever as she also struggles to make any friends. But then her mother decides that they have to move to Carindale, where Emmie is lucky enough to meet Millie Spence who changes her life. Given her strange talent, she has never had a best friend and believes that her life is finally heading in the right direction. When she meets Jack, a go happy lucky friend of Millie, she cannot stop thinking about him and hopes. She is hoping that Jack will ask her out until Julia Jones her old friend unexpectedly comes to visit her, turning her world upside down. Will she find herself in more trouble, or will her mind-reading talents come to her aid?
“It’s Complicated” by Katrina Kahler is a continuation of Emmie’s story that started in the debut. Things had been looking up for her after she found a place she could call home when her world was thrown into turmoil and chaos. Julia Jones had said that she would be back and Emmie dreads the day she will. Moreover, there is a strange boy in town to add to the complication of a stalker that has been tailing Emmie over the past several weeks. The new girl seems quiet and harmless but it remains to be seen how her arrival will impact the girls. However, the biggest headache for the group of friends is a young thug named Ryan who has a rabid hatred for Julia. He may be dangerous enough and this means that Emmie has to put her crush on Jack on hold while they find a solution to Julia’s problem. Full of suspense, drama, and nonstop action, it is a thrilling novel that will have its readers on the edge of their seats.
“The Promise” by Katrina Kahler opens to Emmie in a state of apprehension. She believes that her friend is at risk and has to do something about it. Nobody among her new friends knows of her mind-reading talents and she thus cannot tell anyone what she is thinking about. She is struggling with whether she should say something and save her life or keep it to herself so as not to lose her friends for appearing creepy. But then she makes a promise and spontaneous decision that is certain to turn her life upside down. She has three problems to deal with, none of which are easy to resolve. Ryan who had inserted himself into their lives hates Julia with a passion and could be a threat to her life. Sara is obsessed with Julia’s boyfriend and is making plans to break them up. The third problem is that she knows her friends are in danger but is anxious about telling them of her strange mind-reading talent. Things soon get out of hand when Ryan shows how far he is willing to go when he is suspected of being behind an arson attack. Will this be the thing that gets Emmie to use her talent to help her friends?
