Kayvion is a former youth services librarian before she was an author. However, she has been very involved in the world of kid literature and has been working with younger readers since the age of sixteen years old.

When she is not busy with her writing, she is enjoying taking on escape rooms, going on jumps out of airplanes, and going away to take part in mountain retreats where she studies kung fu.

Kayvion resides in Louisiana. She also has family living in the Bahamas, which she frequently visits. She doesn’t ever know when she is going to go on an upcoming adventure, which could end up taking her to a variety of locations all over the world.

Thieves’ Gambit is the first book in the eponymous series by Kayvion Lewis. This book was very popular and won a Goodreads Choice Award nominated in 2023 in the category of Readers’ Favorite Young Adult Fiction. It also won the 2024 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.

This is a cinematic heist thriller involving a competition that is able to pull together some of the best thieves in the world. There is one thief among them who is competing for the biggest stakes to come of all, the life of her mother.

Ross Quest is just seventeen years old, but she already is great at what she does. She’s a master thief and is the type of be fantastic at executing escape plans. She has a plan to run away from a family of thieves, but things don’t always work out as planned.

When her plan takes a turn that she doesn’t see coming, it may end up being her mother’s life that ends up paying the price. Ross tries to be part of the Thieves’ Gambit, a series of international heists where you compete against others and have to make sure that you are not killed off by the others in the process.

The competition is going to be fierce because the grand prize is the fact that you get a wish to get anything that you want in the world. Ross wants to get the prize and use the wish to try and save her mom. She doesn’t have any other ideas for what she can do or any other options that could make that happen, so this is likely the only chance that she has to save her.

Then she finds out that two of the people that she is going to be vying for the prize against are her foe from her childhood and a good who is a smooth talker, handsome but who also might be invested in trying to take her heart away. Now getting the Gambit might be even more difficult than she initially judged it to be.

Ross is doing her best to try and do what her family always says, which is don’t trust anyone who doesn’t share the family name. However, the stakes have never been as high as this before. Now she’s going to have to figure out who you con and who you trust before they run out of time. Someone’s going to win, and she wants to get this right. As a new Gambit starts to take shape and attempt to get a handle on thee criminal underworld, Ross comes up with her own shaky deal that would potentially make sure that her family is protected and safe.

Now Ross is going to have to face another enemy. One that isn’t going to stop doing whatever they can to take power. Devroe and his mother will be helping Ross and her family, due to the fact that his mother also wants to help destroy the Quests no matter what.

This new Gambit is going to transport Ross and her group all over the world, from going to Monte Carlo to play dice in the casinos to going all across Antarctica’s slopes all covered with snow. Ross is going up against Devroe, taking on her competition while also fighting for her life.
