The debut book of this series is entitled ‘Broken’. It was released in 2013. The story takes place in Llano, Texas and NYC, New York. Initially, it is depicted that Layton and Mike Morris are brothers. They grew up together with a pretty unusual life and were totally unprepared for living in a normal home. The two always depended on one another and looked after each other.

In the absence of parents and no electricity or running water in their house, they learned to survive on their own. Later, Mike gets killed in a tragic accident and Layton is left saddened at the sudden loss of his brother. And when the girl he allowed to enter his heart leaves him heartbroken, Layton decides to focus all his energy and time in building that ranch that he and Mike had dreamed of. Layton promises himself not to fall in love with anyone again, and heartache is the last thing he needs. Whitley Reynolds had a privileged life growing up in upstate New York. The book opens by depicting that Courtney Will dreams to find a Prince Charming and live happily for the rest of her life, just like in the fairy stories she used to read when she was small. She even found a loving and caring man. But, her dreams get shattered when the man turns out to be the worst nightmare of her life. With the intention of forgetting her heartbreaking past, Courtney takes up an editing job and doesn’t hope to love anyone again. Reed Moore has always lived with anger and guilt due to his past. Then, he commits another mistake and deepens his feelings.

Reed fears that he might end up breaking the heart of his love interest one day and repeat the mistake of his father. This fear has prevented him from giving his heart to any woman. The lives of Courtney and Reed seem to have many similarities, especially in the department of love. Both of them have kept their hearts well-guarded so far.
