Kelly Long is an American author of Christian fiction/Amish books best known for Ice Mountain series and Patch of Heaven book series. She was born and raised her childhood in North Central Pennsylvania. Kelly Long became a published author in 2005 when her standalone novel Hart’s Truth was released. Since then, Kelly has authored over a dozen omnibuses, novellas, and two book series Ice Mountain and Patch of Heaven.

Sarah’s Garden

Sarah’s Garden by Kelly Long is the first book in Patch of Heaven series. The narrative takes us into the lives of the King Family where we meet Sarah who takes comfort in her garden simply because she feels like she doesn’t fit in with the women in her community. She isn’t quite gifted at making fabric, and instead, she sees her garden as her quilt. This makes Sarah unique and catches the interest of a new veterinarian just landed in town. But there is a problem- the man is not Amish, and as much as the young woman wants to deny her feelings, she is pretty hooked on the Doctor.

At the urges of her family, Sarah tries to put the thought of the Doctor-Grant Williams out of her mind, but after some stolen kisses here or there, she finds it impossible to get him out of her mind. But when the doctor makes his decision to leave town and let the woman he has come to love go so that her family does not eschew her- Sarah’s world comes down crashing on her. It is then that her family tries to “connect” her with her best childhood friend, Jacob.

Jacob has always been madly in love with Sarah, and he is determined to give it a shot and be there for his woman if he can. Things don’t go easy for Sarah to accept and while she seeks peace in her life- Grant is seeking something quite different. Will Grant return and steal Sarah’s heart again or has she found peace and love in the arms of her best childhood friend?

The first book in Patch of Heaven book series is a beautiful read. Set in Amish community, it is a sweet romance- but by Amish romance standards this type of romance sizzles- meaning that Grant and Sarah exchange a few forbidden kisses. The sexual tension between the two is quite evident from the beginning, and it’s quite fun, and at times a bit sad to watch them genuinely fall in love, a love meant to be but against all the odds.

The characterization is beautifully done. Sarah is from a well-known, loving family. She is sure about her faith in God; she is a bit shy but at times sure of herself. Then there is Grant who plays a major role in the book. He was orphaned at an early age. He wants to give back to the Amish community but somehow bewildered by them at times. Mixed in the romantic aspects is a great sense of humor, that mostly involves the Bustles’ and Grants efforts to renovate his new house.

Kelly does a fantastic job in creating a lively Amish setting. She does a great job of capturing the setting, the Amish lifestyle in the novel. Kelly shows that while many people think that the Amish life is simpler, the truth is that Amish work hard, their devotion and dedication to their family is quite remarkable. The author does an excellent job of showing that it’s not all “sunny” in the Amish community as they also have family problems and even suffer domestic abuse.

Lily’s Wedding Quilt

If there is such thing as top-notch Amish fiction, Kelly is undoubtedly its queen. The second book in Patch of Heaven series revolves around a marriage of convenience that many romance readers love, transported deep into the Amish world. After an intricate series of events, Lilly finds herself married to the guy she has adored since her childhood, Jacob Wyse. However Jacob is still madly in love with his childhood love and best friend Sarah and Lily is not attentive on competing with a skeleton of her husband’s lost love.

Full of misunderstanding and heartbreaks, it’s certain that their marriage is never going to work. Jacob and Lily must work together and learn to trust each other while hoping that someday their marriage of convenience might blossom into true love- but that particular day might be closer than they think.

Lily’s Wedding Quilt, the second book in Patch of Heaven series, is set in the Amish Community, Pennsylvania. It is beautifully written, the characterization is beautifully done. The story tackles some of the tough issues for the Amish community such as the marriage of convenience and depression. Lily the main character is easy to identify with, her fear of marriage without love is something many of us experience. Her strength is seen through her caring for her mother during illness. Her marriage of convenience husband Jacob has some trust issues, and their story is touching for what they had to undergo to realize the depth of their love for each other.

Amish Bride of Ice Mountain

Amish Bride of the Ice Mountain is the debut novel in Ice Mountain Man series by Kelly Long.

The story introduces us to Mary King. Like any other mountain Amish girls, Mary has always dreamed of the day she will wed the love of her life. But she never thought that a sudden and an irresistible kiss would lead in marriage with the cute Englischer professor studying the Amish Community. Or doing the righteous thing would mean keeping their relationship virgin so that someday she and Dr. Jude can go their separate ways.

But when Mary accompanies her man to Atlanta to meet his rich and despotic family, she is tempted even more than ever by her man’s humor, kindness, and vulnerability. And when a sudden misunderstanding causes Mary to return heartbroken to her remote home, she is dead sure that she has lost the love they had found. But a plight of more than faith will work amazing miracles and reveal that Mary’s love is strong enough to make the impossible possible.

   I read the first part of COURTING CALEB at the end of
   MARRYING MATTHEW but I have not been able to find the book itself. Has it been published yet?
