Kenneth Robeson is a pseudonym used by Street and Smith Publications as the popular writer of their famous characters Doc Savage and The Avenger. The novelist Lester Dent wrote a majority of the Doc Savage stories. Other writers later contributed to the series. But Lester Dent is the real mastermind behind the storyline idea. There are more than fifty book editions in the Doc Savage series. The Avenger, initially written by Paul Ernst also used the Kenneth Robeson alias.

The Man of Bronze#1 Doc Savage-Original

Doc Savage, ultimate adventurer, and his gang of five science brothers have their first adventure. An attempted murder on Doc’s life has the group flying from New York City to an ancient secret city in Central American Mayan city as Doc tries to find his inheritance from his father. The hidden Mayan cities provide wealth beyond their wildest dreams, beautiful royal princesses and an unexpected deadly fight with brutal enemies. Doc Savage represents a hero of the mid-thirties all the way to the seventies. With a massive inheritance from his father who was murdered in Central America, he’s better prepared to fight and defend himself and his wealth. His father ensured that Doc received sufficient training right from birth.

His office sits in a New York skyscraper, on the 86th floor.Doc was born straight into a supreme adventurer with nearly genius intellectual and the right mental conditioning, coupled with professional physical dexterity- toned with daily exercises. He appears strong and powerful and can detect his enemies from a distance by scent and a keen eye. Doc is also a multitalented sharpshooter, a scientist, a language expert crimes detective and a suave martial artist. He has rescued many from the grip of death … his greatest mission is to fetch his inheritance hidden in modern Mexico, but he must fight off evil enemies to get it, deep in Hidalgo, Central America country. Given his mission and the right resources, Doc effectively makes the series an origin story with near perfection skills in all ways.

The concept of escapism brought forth a highly competent person accorded absolute freedom to go out and save the world from its evils. That era provides a perfect setting for such macho action, with the memories of a fierce world war and a continuity of Savage’s heroism right into the second and more lethal world war. We witness gender and racial issues as it was rife during those days too. However, it seemed like the stain developed a character that would elucidate a literate and socially sensitive hero in Savage. The narrative does not appeal much, but overall we get the gist of a great adventure story packed with the right fictitious characters to keep readers thoroughly entertained. Doc Savage is depicted as a hero, a man capable of combining his physical, athletic strength with an intelligent, calculus mind; he comes off as a merciful famous human hero.

Savage is the good inspiration for Superman. He has a special place of isolation called the fortress of solitude. The Pulps have returned making Doc’s power felt yet again providing readers with yet another episode of rip-snorting fun to attract and retain readers.

Packed with wild creativity The Doc Savage books provide exciting, unexpected inspiration. Often ludicrously preposterous, this robust fictional chowder is indeed filling. It offers a brisk freedom in these stories quite amiss in other modern-day adventure books.

The Thousand-Headed Man #2 Doc Savage

Doc Savage travels to the forests of Indo-China with a strange black Chinese man in a frantic venture to demolish the evil one thousand-headed staff. By now we’re accustomed to this amazing superhero with perfect body and an unmatched intellectual ability, perhaps one of the most extraordinary people on earth, before Sherlock Holmes, Batman, and Superman. He is a unique mental marvel, a gigantic man of remarkable physical strength. He was a creation of science having received his training from birth for a predestined life – his incredible career. Doc has not lived as a regular mortal; he’s instead focused on a systemized scientific way of life from his feeding schedule, training schedule and learning plans; with two hours of daily rigorous routine training, to develop muscles, physical strength as well as mental sharpness.

Doc was a free man exposed to rare sciences, trades and historical details too complicated for the ordinary person to grasp from his tender age. The result of all of this crafted and well-thought upbringing produces a genius with unmatched physical strength. Doc’s mission in life was to help others out of danger, or minor troubles, rescuing the oppressed and handling evil villains who ignored the laws of the land. Doc Savage does not accept any payment or his role in saving the world. With his team of five equally dedicated combat assistants, Doc Savage provides excitement and adventure, for his readers in their numerous escapades to save the society –from imminent trouble.

Meteor Menace #3 Doc Savage

The horrendous Blue Meteor flashes across the heavens leaving angry maniacs in its wake. Doc Savage and his team take on these subversive aliens head-on. A colossal villain Mo Gwei makes his presence known in Tibet, adorning an ugly purple Bron mask, the yak demon. What’s more, there is a gorgeous diva in Rae Stanley, who captures Doc savage’s heart and captivates him with her beauty. He won’t let this one slip through his fingers.Doc puts a ring on it a soon as possible, and Rae apparently quite smitten, happily accepts the proposal.

Meanwhile, a villain, Saturday Loo, and his obnoxious cronies cause havoc in Chile and Tibet. Crackerjack schemes and wicked activities keep Doc and his troops busy in a hotly contested combat all over Tibet. The Doc Savage adventure books not only provide extreme adventure but they also provide great educational insights especially the rich history of the Mayan culture in Central America and a host of historically significant cities in Chile.

Meteor Menace has an improved editing version than the first books. We also enjoy a romance story, finally! I thought Doc would remain celibate but the authors beautifully incorporated a princess for his liking to match his extraordinary persona. A perfect action-packed novel for teenagers bursting with active hormones, though the feeling subsides as boys transform into men, the books also advance in language and detailed plots to match with developing an audience. Great read all the way into adulthood.
