Focusing on the horror genre with her unique combination of both romance and fantasy, Keri Arthur is a well established American author who’s made a strong name for herself over the years. Looking at vampires and werewolves, she examines the lives and loves of her now much beloved characters. Her main protagonist through many of her novels has been Riley Jenson, a figure she’s been running with for a long time now.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up Keri Arthur took inspiration from the environment around, creating the basis for what was to be her much appreciated characters later on. With an interest in writing from an early age, this was something that was to inform her career for much of her adult life. This was something she was also going to bring into her education later on. Holding a strong interest in the fantasy genre early on, she has a keen eye for the supernatural taking a look at vampires and werewolves; both common themes running throughout her fiction.
Born within the area of Melbourne, she’s highly regarded as an Australian author of some repute, all thanks to her unique brand of fantasy romance. Taking on all manner of subjects, she uses her family and friends as a constant source of inspiration, continually providing her with the level of feedback she needs to help develop her work. In amidst all this she then takes the time-out to take part in a whole variety of hobbies, from walking her dogs to watching TV. Over time she has used all this to help establish her and her voice, which she will continue to do so for many years to come.
Writing Career
With over twenty-eight novels and counting, Keri Arthur has been writing her idiosyncratic brand of paranormal romance for a number of years now. Mainly known for her best-selling Riley Jensen novels, the Australian author has managed to create a world that is both in-depth and highly immersive for her readers. Starting in 2000 with her ‘Nikki and Michael’ novels, she has also worked to create a multitude of book series as well. With other ten series that are still currently ongoing, she continues what she’s started, still to this very day. Each book tends to build upon what she has previously written, developing it even further than before.
In the past she worked at the Bureau of Meteorology as a clerk there before moving on to work as a cook within the MCG. She also was a cook for the Essendon Football Club at one point before her career in writing, all of this working to help establish and build her career later on. Using her professional history, she managed to create realistic characters that were relatable in both their presence and their tone, allowing the readers to build an ongoing rapport with them as the series progressed. This has especially been the case with Riley Jensen, a much beloved and well established character that provides the reader with a quick and easy access into her world. Arthur plans many more releases for the future, with a number of titles set to be published soon, as she shall continue writing into the foreseeable future.
Dancing With The Devil
The first of the Nikki and Michael books, this novel sets the tone for the series overall, establishing both the world and the characters within. Published on the 1st of March, 2001, this was an early entry into the career of writer Keri Arthur as she was just starting out. Building and developing the style she was to use, this was to introduce many of the elements that were to become regular fixtures throughout her work.
Opening with Nikki James, the private investigator who grew up fending for herself within the hardened streets of Lyndhurst, it charts her first case that is to provide her greatest challenge yet. Following a young teenager named Monica Trevgard into some very dark territory as she immerses herself in the shadows, she uncovers the love of two highly different men who are at war with one another. Becoming a pawn in their game, she starts to realize just how dangerous love can possibly be to those it captures within its all enticing grasp. This is especially the case when Nikki must put her trust in the hold of a man that can potentially see to her destruction. Michael Kelly is a vampire that comes to her for help, thus attempting to end the cravings he feels for the blood of the living. Striking up a relationship with him, she use her psychic abilities to break down his defenses and help better him as a person. Will she be able to escape the dangers that threaten to engulf her, or will they prove to be too much for her? Can she help Michael manage the darkness he holds inside keeping the evil at bay that threatens to consume them all? What will become of them both as they go dancing with the devil?
Full Moon Rising
With her tone well established now, this display Australian author Keri Arthur in a somewhat more developed phase of her writing career. The first of the Riley Jensen mysteries, this was initially published in 2006 on the 31st of January. This was to become the series that helped establish her name a turn her into the literary powerhouse that she currently is today, by offering her audience this now much beloved character.
Both supernatural and erotic, it’s a book that’s sensual in its nature and its tone, as it opens with Riley Jensen who’s both a vampire and a werewolf, being a highly rare hybrid of the two. Her and her brother are both working in Melbourne as part of their special division there that operates as the Directorate of Other Races. As the urges behind her condition get stronger, she finds that she needs to develop stronger tactics to deal with the symptoms and keep her cravings at bay in the process. Will she be able to manage it? Who is this mysterious new figure in her life? What will become of her as there’s a full moon rising?
