Kevin R. Doyle
Kevin R. Doyle is a high school teacher, fiction writer, and former college instructor. He has written many short stories, primarily in the horror field. Kevin teaches public speaking and English at a high school in Missouri.

“Squatter’s Rights”, the first of the Sam Quinton series, was nominated for the Shamus Award as Best First PI Novel in 2021.

“One Helluva Gig” is a novella that was released in the year 2012.
What if Elvis never actually left the building, but he just made a living as an impersonator of himself?

This novel chronicles many years of the life of a newspaper reporter, named Frank Peters, who rises to prominence through the series of associations with a major recording star, Rob Jeffers, who Peters first interviewed back when Jeffers was still just playing the college circuit.

When Jeffers died midway through his stratospheric career, Peters own career hits a downward spiral which ends with him working for this tabloid paper where he chases years or alleged sightings of Jeffers, who is still alive. While Peters gets sent out once more to the middle of nowhere to investigate a Jeffers sighting, he finds something that is unexpected, not just about the dead singer, but himself as well.

“The Group” is the first novel in “The Group” series and was released in the year 2014. Professor Ron Green just had himself to blame while his marriage teetered on the brink. Even while the affair had been over and done with for months, he felt accused by each and every icy stare that his wife sent his way.

What could be any worse than such a slow motion disaster? His ex-lover getting murdered could be worse. And being the prime suspect in her death would be worse. Finding out about another murder that’s related to his lover’s death, and making himself the scapegoat by telling the cops about this connection would be worse, too.

Somebody is murdering harmless members of the focus group where he met up with his lover. What did this group do to cause this terrible vengeance? Who might feel the hurt by anything that Ron and the others did during those two short days? Ron has to answer these questions and find the murderer before it’s him that winds up taking the fall. Or worse, before the killer locates him.

“When You Have to Go There” is the second novel in “The Group” series and was released in the year 2018. Detective Helen Lipscomb, even as her career heads nowhere, just would not give up. Even though everybody, from the police chief on down, wanted her off of the force, she pushed herself to stick it out, not giving those bastards the satisfaction of seeing her crumble.

She had just one near career ending fiasco in her life, and could not imagine that another would wind up coming her way. Until there was a new serial killer that showed up in town, less than one year after Helen had missed catching the last one.

And this killer was not just targeting random people, some helpless females, or any of the innocent and meek. He was going after the cops themselves. And while Helen sees her colleagues going to down one after the other, she knows that it is just a matter of time until this killer’s attention is turned to her.

And THe Devil Walks Away is the third book in the series. A disgraced former cop gets hired by a convicted serial killer to find information, not for absolving him of his crimes but to actually prove that he committed more murders than the authorities are aware of.

He is trying to bargain for a reduced sentence by providing information on his previous murders, however in another state another guy, who the original killer hasn’t ever met, has been taking credit for the crimes he’s committed.

“The Litter” is a stand alone novel that was released in the year 2015. They kept to the shadows so that nobody would know that they even existed, and preyed on the nameless that nobody would ever miss. Where did they come from, and who was it protecting them? In a city that had seen every single sort of savagery, they were something new, something that was more than murderous.

And one woman that had believed she had lost everything to lose in life would quickly find that nothing could possibly ready her for what would come when she entered their world.

“Squatter’s Rights” is the first novel in the “Sam Quinton” series and was released in the year 2020. Lowlife Nicky LeBow had a habit of hiding out in strangers’ homes. Nobody noticed him until the day that he went into the wrong house and found himself getting targeted by crooks and cops alike.

Private investigator and former professional wrestler Sam Quinton did not care all that much about Nicky either, until this squatter ended up dead, and the elderly couple that was quietly living their golden years out became the next target of this killer.

Sam Quinton is a lovable tough guy, making for a fantastic protagonist. This is a good read that surfs the ever changing waves of evil and good. Kevin delivers a fast paced detective novel that is definitely a page turner.

“Heel Turn” is the second novel in the “Sam Quinton” series and was released in the year 2021. Sheila Hampton, at just twenty-three years old, was arrested, tried, and convicted for killing Derek Hampton, her wealthy husband. Some twenty-five years later and with her conviction overturned, she is released from prison, just to get arrested again days later for killing the prosecutor, who is now retired and sent her away originally.

Attorney Bernie Lyman has got a personal interest in her case, and he hires Sam Quinton to help prove that his client is innocent. However while Sam digs deeper into the case, he starts ferreting out the truth of what actually happened with Derek and Sheila twenty-five years prior and finds himself pondering why Sheila’s ex in-laws are this determined to get in his way.
