Thus, the queen of scrapbooking, Kiki, decides to look for a full time job, to support her daughter Anya and bring food to the table. As luck would have it, Kiki lands a job at the local store, Time in a Bottle, where she normally purchases groceries. When Kiki’s rental is robbed, and her wealthy grandmother tries to take advantage of the danger, by claiming Anya, Kiki finds comfort in the handsome police detective, Chad. Despite the fact that the entire police force believes that she was responsible for the death of her husband and his mistress, Chad begins to doubt Kiki’s involvement in her husband’s death. To survive, Kiki must be able to overcome months of depression and low esteem. Ink, Red, Dead
Ink, Red, Dead is a delightful narrative, which features a heroine well known to the readers, a single woman who tends to get herself in amazing situations with minimal effort. Unlike many heroines in today’s novel, Kiki Lowenstein is not only likable, but also separates herself from the crowd. Residing in Richmond, Kiki Lowenstein is a widow, with a young daughter, struggling to make ends meet. Apart from providing for her daughter, Kiki is also rebuilding her life as well. In Ink, Red, Dead, the heroine Kiki is still working in a scrapbooking store, where she now has a minority share. To increase her income, Kiki works for Mert’s cleaning business. When the book begins, Dodie’s daughter has just quit college, and her parents decide to appoint her as the new store manager.

Against the protagonist’s advice, the new manager begins to set up new scrapbooking parties at the home of their clients. While setting up a party in one of their client’s home, Kiki and Clancy, her co-worker, realize that the grounds and the home were deteriorating despite the fact that the client was living in an upscale neighborhood. After hitting the doorbell for quite some time, Kiki and Clancy cannot understand why the homeowner was not answering her doorbell. Nonetheless, after sometime Kiki manages to get the front door open, only to be hit with a pungent smell. Kiki decides to go through the unbearable smell and eventually finds the client on her bed, nearly dead. Taking out her phone, Kiki calls 911. After the animal control, paramedics and police officers finish their work, Kiki ultimately joins Mert’s cleaning team, to reclaim the beautiful home from years of neglect.

With that said, author Joan Campbell Slan writing style is quite enjoyable. The author narrates the story in the first person, from Kiki’s point of view. All the characters in Ink, Red, Dead are fully developed, irrespective as to whether the reader likes them or not. Many of the situations in the novel are quite believable; many of them being situations that one encounters in real life.
