Author Kim Liggett was only sixteen years old when she left her rural midwestern town to go to New York City to pursue a career in acting and music. While she was attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Kim sang backup vocals for some of the largest rock bands during the eighties.

She became an entrepreneur after she settled down and had a family, creating a travel company that specializes in tours for musicians and a children’s art education program.

Kim’s debut novel, “Blood and Salt” was released in the year 2015. She writes young adult fantasy, with elements of horror, mystery, and romance being found in her work.

Her novel “The Last Harvest” won a Bram Stoker Award in the year 2017.

“Blood and Salt” is the first novel in the “Blood and Salt” series, which was released in the year 2015. ‘When you fall in love, you carve your heart out and throw it into the deepest ocean. You’re all in: blood and salt.’ these are the final words Ash Larkin hears before her mom goes back to the spiritual commune she escaped from a long time ago. When Ash follows her to Quivira, Kansas, there is something sinister and ancient that is waiting among all the rustling cornstalks in this village lost to time.

Ash is plagued by memories of Katia, Ash’s ancestor, which go back to the town’s history of alchemy and immortality, murder and unrequited love. Charming traditions quickly give way to a series of gruesome deaths, and Ash feels that she is drawn to Dane, who is a forbidden boy that has his own secrets.

While the community gets read for a ceremony five centuries in the making, Ash has to fight to save her mother as well as herself. She also has to find out the truth about Quivira before it is too late. Before she winds up all in, blood and salt.

This novel takes you right into a world that is unlike all the others, and readers find that they have never read anything quite like this. There is horror, romance, mystery wrapped up in all of this. The book is tough to stop thinking about or reading, and by the end, you want to get your hands on the sequel.

“Heart of Ash” is the second novel in the “Blood and Salt” series, which was released in the year 2018. Ash may have been able to escape the immortal-worshiping cult, but the love of her life is still held under its thumb. Dane was possessed by Coronado, his diabolical ancestor, a guy that is dripping with fame, fabulously wealthy, and the Europe’s most dangerous immortal network’s leader.

Dane begs Ash to join him in Spain at Coronado’s castle. He swears up and down that the blood bond he shares with Ash is stronger than Coronado’s hold on him. Ash desperately wants to help Dane vanquish Coronado without the need to sacrifice herself to the darkness. When you are all in, blood and salt, the only way to hang on to the light may just be by setting everything on fire.

Readers enjoyed the book for its deep pulsating romance, the lush setting, and you invest in each of the characters in the story. Each of the turns and twists the book’s plot takes keep you guessing to the point that nothing really is as it appears.

“The Last Harvest” is the first stand alone novel, which was released in the year 2017. ‘I plead the blood’. These are the last words that Clay Tate, a golden boy quarterback, hears at the age of seventeen coming out of his dad while he is dying. He finds his dad on the Neely Cattle Ranch’s barn floor and clutching a crucifix to his chest.

On the first anniversary of the Midland, Oklahoma slaughter, the entire town is looking at Clay like he could be the next one to go over the edge. Clay would like to forget about the past, but the daughters and sons of the Preservation Society, who are a group of prominent farmers that his dad accused of worshiping the devil, will not leave him alone. It includes Ali, who is his longtime crush, who would like to reignite their romance after being silent for a year, as well as Tyler Neely, a hated rival, who behaves like they are old buddies.

Even while Clay tries to reassure himself, creepy glances turn into sinister stares and odd coincidences build up to gruesome rituals. After he cannot prove none of it ever happened, Clay worries that he could be following his father down the path to insanity. Or possibly something far more horrifying lies waiting around the corner.

Kim Liggett keeps you in suspense about what is going to happen next. Her writing pulls you in, and the mystery is laid out nicely to keep you turning the pages. Even though some had seen the twist coming, it was still a ton of fun getting to it. Readers found that after they read this, they would seek out more books written by this author.

“The Unfortunates” is the second stand alone novel, which was released in the year 2018. Grant Tavish, a senator’s seventeen year old son, is involved in a fatal accident, all he would like to is face the consequences of what he did. The consequences never come for him, even if headlines with “affluenza” do. The truth quickly becomes clear. Due to the connections that his dad has, he will be getting away with murder.

A long Tavish tradition approaches, a cave excursion on the Appalachian trail. He takes the chance to take justice into his hands by staging an accident and then he never returns. Before he can enact his plans, though, the cave system collapses, trapping him miles under the surface with four teens who are much less fortunate than Grant. While they fight to survive, they share innermost fears and secrets with each other. Just when it appears they could be on track to discovering a way out, they figure out that there is something else down there with them.

It is hunting for them.
