As a writer of thriller and mystery novels, the American author Jaycee Clark has been extremely prolific for a number of years now, with an extensive backlog behind her. Employing an imaginative style of prose, her work is engaging and entertaining, drawing the readers in, as well as her characters that clearly resonate with her audience. This has helped her to become a leading figure within her particular field, and a massively vocal authority for both her and her craft as a whole. One series that she is particularly well known for is that of her ongoing ‘Kinncaid Brothers’ collection of books, a franchise which really displays the best of her abilities. It’s the ideal series for anybody looking to find out more on her as an author, as well as having a massive loyal following who eagerly await each title. Going on for a while now, it incorporates elements of both romance as well as suspense, giving it an almost seductive driving force that slowly draws its readers in.

Lasting for over six titles so far and counting, they tell the story of an ever powerful and rich family who live and operate among some of the global elites. Giving them a sense of humanity and a real personality, she works at removing the facade of wealth with all its trappings, allowing their characters to really flourish. Showing the truth behind such a lifestyle is something that her readers have really come to appreciate and will continue to do so for some years to come.

Deadly Shadows

Originally published in 2004 on the first of April, this was initially released through the ‘New Concepts Publishing’ label as it marked the debut of the ‘Deadly’ series of novels. Setting everything up as well as introducing all the key characters, it manages to immediately draw the reader in with its central intriguing hook that captures them on the first page. The story-line is also simple to follow ensuring that it is not too convoluted, thus making it the ideal casual read for, which is why so many new readers are currently flocking to this series every day.

Focusing on ideas and concepts of power and passion, it may seem like pure escapism on first glance, something which is definitely on offer, but there is a whole lot more waiting under the surface. Looking at the boundaries of good and evil and where the line is drawn, Clark ensures that none of her characters devolve into two-dimensional archetypes. Creating villains that are truly terrifying, she ensures that nothing is wasted and that everyone has a real fully formed personality and sense of humanity. Set in small-town Colorado, she also really uses her sense of location well as well too, giving it a real grounded and realistic feel in the process. Allowing the quietness of the town to really set the remote isolationist sense of ambiance surrounding the novel, she builds upon the atmosphere over the course of the novel. She also manages to create a character in of itself from the surrounding environment, setting up an obstacle of sorts for the leading protagonists within. Setting up the leading character of Jesslyn Black to enter this world, the reader then sees the narrative through her introduction to this series, as she meets up with Aiden Kinncaid, the first introduction given to the audience.

With a traumatic past, the writer Jesslyn Black is haunted by her own history, as she seeks to live a quiet, single and child-free life away from it all. This is then disturbed by a murder, followed by the arrival of Aiden Kinncaid, the handsome CEO of Kinncaid Enterprises who happens to also be running from his own troubled past. Meeting each other their strong willed personalities clash creating an air of tension, something which soon alleviates to something deeper and more passionate. Will they find the killer? Can they overcome their differences? What will occur in the deadly shadows?

Deadly Ties

Brought out through the ‘New Concepts Publishing’ house once again, this title continues directly where the last one left off, further establishing the world it’s set within. Offering her readers much of what came before, Jaycee Clark has really managed to fully work out what it is that works about the series, thus showing a confident writer who is clearly within her element here. Looking at a different set of stories and lives set around the same family, it also offers some surprises and twists along the way, which ensures that her readers are kept guessing right until the very end.

Once again ensuring that her themes and ideas aren’t simply lost within the overall narrative arc, Clark ensures that her central premise remains true and visible throughout. Giving each of her characters a unique voice, she continues to tell the story of passion, power and what it takes to ensure that the right thing is done. The driving force of romance also plays a big part once again, something which she uses to really flesh the characters out, making them seem much more real in the process. Taking her expert use of location again, it really draws on the surrounding environment once more, building upon the sense of atmosphere and momentum that grows throughout.

Starting out with Taylor Reese this time, it tells her story as she finds herself not caring for men at all, besides her son Ryan, who’s the only one that matters to her. Then Dr. Gavin Kinncaid steps onto the scene and finds that he’s initially infuriated with her, as tensions threaten to grow between them both. That’s when these feelings start to transform into something else, and the tension soon gives way to something far more real and passionate for them both. Will they overcome their differences? Is there any man besides her son that Taylor can trust? Can they break the deadly ties?

The Kinncaid Brothers Series

Also known as the ‘Deadly’ series by Jaycee Clark, this has been running for quite some time now, as she constantly adds to it and updates it. Whilst the franchise was released at certain dates, the chronology of the series itself differs from the publication dates, with titles such as ‘Deadly Beginnings’ being set before the first novel, despite being released afterwards. There’s a lot more to come from this series yet, as it shows a lot of potential to be expanded upon, something that Clark will continue into the foreseeable future.
