Kirsten Weiss is a writer whose works are set n the paranormal mystery genre. Kirsten worked abroad and overseas for going on fourteen years, deep in the war zones of Afghanistan and in the fringes of what used to be the U.S.S.R. and has since moved to different pastures. Her experiences all over the world gave her an insight into what life is like in other parts of the world as well as the darker side of humanity.

It also sparked an interest in what the effects of mysticism and mythology are, and how the two are both constantly woven into our everyday lives. Kirsten Weiss now lives in San Mateo, California. She writes her stories there, weaving paranormal mysteries based on not only her experiences and memories but her imagination to help create a world that is filled with magic as well as plenty of mayhem. She enjoys any type of dessert under the sun and enjoys drinking good wine and watching reruns of the television show Ghost Whisperer.

Her first novel was published in 2011 and is called The Metaphysical Detective. It is the first book in the Riga Hayworth Mystery series. The follow up is titled The Alchemical Detective and was published in 2012. There are seven books in this series, finishing with The Hermetic Detective, published in 2015.

She has also worked on other series, with three novels in her series Sensibility Grey. The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum has three novels in it and deals with paranormal things set in a museum. The Rocky Bridges series has one novel published in it, The Mannequin Offensive, but with so many books and a complete listing, The Riga Hayworth Mystery series is one of her most popular.

The main character in The Metaphysical Detective is named Riga Hayworth. She, of course, is the metaphysical detective that is working in question, hence the title of the novel.

Riga Hayworth has a new client named Helen Baro. The only thing is that Helen Baro believes that her husband is actively trying to kill her. However, her husband passed away in a car crash the previous year. So when it comes to what really is going on, Riga just isn’t sure what she should think. She has doubts about the soundness of Helen’s sanity, but if it’s not some type of weird onset delusion or a severe mental illness that is affecting her client, then what is going on?

Riga has her doubts about this being a murder from beyond the grave, but you never know. Helen is really scared, and Riga thinks that it is possible that there is someone skulking around out there trying to harm her. As it turns out, all of Helen’s fears were justified. That Helen was certainly onto something, and unfortunately, her paranoia proves to be a sign of what is to come.

When Riga Hayworth finds Helen stone cold dead, just as dead as a doornail, she thinks that she suspects a setup. And it is a set up that has metaphysical proportions. But Riga is determined to find the killer and must travel from San Francisco to the underworld and come back in one piece. Easier said than done, to be sure.

Helen is not only found dead which is extremely unfortunate. Riga thinks that the whole thing is strange, but perhaps not so strange; while the murder is seemingly odd, it’s logical in that there is also a certainty that someone else is involved. This is known because there is a strange haiku that was left with her, as well as a tarot. As Riga investigated the mystery further, she is thrown into a mystery and tense investigation that might just end up threatening the detective as well as those around her that she truly loves.

This exciting book and the first installment of the Riga Hayworth Mystery series is gripping and you won’t want to put it down. San Francisco is described so beautifully here, and The Metaphysical Detective has twists at every turn. While it’s there, it also explores archetypes and their power as expressed through Greek mythology and Tarot. See what Riga does and if she can revenge what has happened to her client by catching the killer for good.

The second book in the Riga Hayworth series brings back Riga as the main character once more. Things are getting trickier than ever, although life when it comes to Riga is never especially simple. But this is especially bad because a psychic has been murdered. As if that weren’t horrible enough, the police have come to her because they believe she is connected to the crime, and they’re right. It’s not like Riga Hayworth doesn’t have a million things going on at the moment distracting her.

At the same time, Riga has just landed a new job. She’s hosting a television show that airs locally and it is featuring the local lake monster called Tahoe Tessie. It doesn’t exactly give her all the time in the world to solve this case, but with a storm on the horizon and being the main suspect in a murder case instead of being a consultant, she’s going to have to turn a lot around and not a lot of time in which to do it in.

Not only that but now her niece is fighting with her metaphysical abilities and actually rejecting them. Between angry tarot card readers and daemons and demons that she has to juggle constantly, Riga has to stay focused and not only find the killer but catch them too. Before she gets arrested for their crimes or becomes their next target. And with her own metaphysical powers fading a bit, Riga really needs her powers to come back, so she decides to get some good old rest and relaxation at Lake Tahoe.

With her Gargoyle sidekick Brigitte and the job of clearing her name now on her plate, Riga must investigate with no client but herself and get the job done. Will Riga find the murderer– or Tahoe Tessie? Are the monster and the murder sightings connected? With growing tension and her life on the line, Riga is on the verge of cracking her biggest case yet.
