Kristin Billerbeck is a bestselling chick lit novelist credited for bringing the genre into the Christian market. Earlier in her life, she earned her advertising and marketing degree and would then become a freelance writer.
During this period, she wrote all manner of marketing materials including web/blog content, press releases and marketing copy in addition to collateral marketing materials. She would later become a marketing director and did the marketing for several malls in Silicon Valley.
Billerbeck published “Strong as the Redwood,” her debut novel in 1997 and since then has become one of the most prolific authors in the chick lit genre.. She now has more than 40 published titles in addition to three non fiction works that she ghost wrote.
With her novels which had a Christian slant becoming very popular, she would become branded a Christina Chick Lit author. In addition to her novels, she is also a blogger at “Girls Write Out” and “Girly Girl,” which is a blog about Pop Culture.
Billerbeck grew up with a strong sense of justice and since she was not smart enough to make DA, she decided to become a novelist.
The fourth generation Californian and American mutt has said that she strongly identifies with her Italian heritage. However, she was born to a mother who has German and Norwegian roots who tried to teach her the old ways of life.
She was taught budgeting, sewing, cleaning and cooking so that she could become an upright member of society. While her mother tried her best she failed miserably as she figure skated, danced and cheered through life completely confusing her practical family.
For her 40th birthday her grandmother gave her a cookie gun hoping she could turn things around. Kristin Billerbeck’s Italian family taught her the good life including how to shop, eat, be merry and generally be indulgent. Her grandmother had a penchant for shoes given her tiny feet.
She never had to endure lessons at her house except for how to walk in high heels, drip herself in rhinestones and drape herself in her Nana’s mink. She of course picked up this lifestyle a lot faster.
As for how Kristin Billerbeck came to be a storyteller, it all has to do with her childhood experiences. Growing up, she had a very ill brother who was always in and out of hospital which meant she spent much of the time all alone. During this time, he made stories in her head to pass the time.
While her brother was in therapy, she used to spend hours at the Eucalyptus grove behind the Stanford Children’s Council as she imagined she was in a different world. Unlike many authors, he was never much of a reader until he was in his first year of high school and discovered Jane Austen.
He would go on to read everything she ever wrote and her love for reading blossomed from there. Kristin went on to graduate with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from San Jose State University. It was also at college that she would become a born again Christian.
As a mother to four children, her hobbies include drinking espresso and bus driving. She also likes to meet out with her friends to go to brunch and dinner. When she is relaxing at home, she likes to watch a lot of documentaries and reality TV.
Kristin Billerbeck’s novel “What a Girl Wants” is a work that will resonate with many Christian women. It is particularly poignant for women trying to have a relationship, keep their faith and have a career.
It is a chick lit novel that should not be taken too seriously even though Billerbeck develops her characters and showcases their flaws to make them very relatable.
The lead is a patent attorney named Ashley who is searching for love but cannot seem to find the right guy at the right time. On the other hand is Seth, who is a man she has crushed on for the longest time who can never seem to ever want a serious relationship.
While Seth is a Christian, he cannot offer what she wants and when Kevin a non Christian becomes interested in ehr she finds herself in quite the conundrum. With so many dramatic changes taking place in her life, she needs to figure out a new direction for her life.
It is a cute Christian romance with a funny and slightly mental lead whose story is quite endearing.
“She’s Out of Control” by Kristin Billerbeck continues to follow Ashley Stockingdale with more of her many antics. While she decided to have a boyfriend who she has been dating for nearly a year, she does think her relationship is going anywhere. Ashley is in love with him and cannot wait for him to propose but he remains non committal.
As a 31 year old, she can feel her ticking biological clock but is unable to cut ties with the man. Ashley knows the right thing to do is cut ties if she is to find someone who can commit for the long term but she is unable to pull the trigger.
But things get very interesting when an affectionate, handsome and caring former boyfriend comes into the picture. He wants to be friends with Ashley and this is sure to complicate her relationships even further.
Combining her family, work and boyfriend issues coupled with best friend baby issues she feels as if her life is spinning out of control.
Kristin Billerbeck’s novel “With This Ring, I’m Confused” sees Aashley finally achieve the dream she has had for the longest time. At long last the homeowner, fashionista and patent attorney finally gets to add fiance to her resume as she awaits her happily ever after.
Over the next few months, she will be waltzing on the decadent aisles of Kenneth Cole, Vera Wang, Kate Spade place settings, Sheridan sheets and Oneida flatware. But then she learns that her company just hired her former boyfriend who will be working as the new director of one of the departments.
He had broken her heart when he ran off to India leaving her in a lurch. In the meantime, her fiance has been sounding crazy as he proposes that they move miles across the US to Philadelphia. Life seems very confusing for Ashley but one thing she never lacks is drama.
