Kyle Mills
Kyle Mills was born in the year 1966 and grew up in Oregon, although he lived all over from Virginia, DC, London, Wyoming, and Maryland. Since his dad was an FBI agent and Kyle was a bureau kid, which is something similar to an army brat. You usually spend a lot of your time with other bureau children and get transferred around a bunch, however he fared better than many others on that front.

A positive thing about this lifestyle is that you cannot help but pick up a huge amount about the CIA, FBI, Special Forces, etc. Like many young boys, he was ceaselessly fascinated with the talk about chasing criminals and pictured this in the most romantic terms imaginable, obviously. Who could have thought that all of his esoteric would end up coming in this handy?

At one point, he was working at a small bank in Jackson Hole, spending days making business loans and his weekends and afternoons climbing. At last it occurred to him that he had never actually attempted to be creative. He figured he could try to make something out of nothing. Why not? His first bright idea was to learn how to build furniture. This plan had drawbacks, the obvious one being that he isn’t all that handy.

It was actually his wife that suggested Kyle write a novel. It seemed like an awful idea at first, however since he had majored in finance and had spent his whole career in college avoiding English class like the plague. That said, he still couldn’t totally shake the idea off. It nagged at him over time that he felt to lay pen to paper. Eight months after that, he finished Rising Phoenix and roughly a year later he was able to get it published.

His debut’s success and the books that followed has allowed him to make his living working as a writer, which is not bad work if you can get it. Other than this, his life has not changed all that much. As he gets older, his elbows have made him get into mountain bike racing and backcountry skiing instead of rock climbing. He also got a not-so-bright idea of restoring this old pickup to replace his dying Jeep. He lives with his wife, the same girl that he began climbing with so many years prior.

Kyle has written for Robert Ludlum’s “Covert-One” series (writing three novels in the series) and in the year 2015 he continued the popular “Mitch Rapp series, starting with the fourteenth book, called “The Survivor”. He writes the “Mark Beamon” series and the “Fade” duology as well as some stand alone novels. His work is from the thriller genre. His debut novel, called “Rising Phoenix”, was released in the year 1997.

“Rising Phoenix” is the first novel in the “Mark Beamon” series and was released in the year 1997. Special Agent Mark Beamon is a maverick, as his open disdain for the FBI’s rules, and Directors in general, has exiled him to a no-profile post out in the boondocks. However when a shadowy right-wing group begins flooding America’s emergency rooms with dying and dead, Mark gets summoned back to DC.

Teamed with one icily efficient female field agent, he has been given the thankless job of stopping the slaughter, even though millions of Americans actually approve of it all. While the body count continues to rise, he realizes there’s something spookily familiar about his foe, reminding him of the coldest killer that he ever has encountered. And it was not a criminal, however a colleague in law enforcement. And for the very first time, he wonders why he was selected for this assignment. Was it his expendability or his expertise?

“Burn Factor” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 2001. Quinn Barry’s desire is to be an FBI agent, one day. Right now, however she is only a nobody, just a computer programmer that toils in a basement office, revamping some ancient computer programming against some impossible deadlines.

While she carries out some routine maintenance on the FBI’s brand new Combined DNA Index System, she finds a connection between five unsolved crimes, a series of savage slayings that it’s never matched prior. Informing her boss of her find, though, has got some unexpected consequences. Blamed for this so called ‘error’ and instantly reassigned to Quantico on what ends up being a bit more than just a routine upgrade, she starts suspecting a much scarier scenario than just a simple glitch in CODIS’ programming.

What if there’s actually a serial killer at work whose activities have up to this point been masked by the same system which was set up to detect her or him? These suspicions get her fired, but that is the last thing on her mind while she finds her own life is at risk. It is certain that nobody is going to believe that this 22 year old computer clerk has uncovered one of the dirtiest and darkest secrets of the agency. A US military machine ready to overlook certain character flaws in their important personnel. Even if they are psychopathic tendencies.

“Smoke Screen” is the second stand alone novel and was released in the year 2003. Trevor Barnett is the heir to an old tobacco family. He is 31 and is going to come into a ten million dollar trust fund when he turns sixty just so long as he has been in constant employment from graduation until his sixtieth birthday with the cigarette company that his ancestor founded.

He is consequently also not the most motivated person in the entire world. At least not at the start of the novel, anyway. When the book opens, the tobacco industry as a whole faces a multi-billion dollar lawsuit that could bankrupt the whole industry.

However the industry chooses to fight back, and chooses Trevor in order to do it. And Trevor might or might not have an agenda of his own. Which might just include the woman that he loves from far away, who is a lawyer from one of the anti-smoking campaign groups.

I have read all of the Mitch Rapp books – both all of those by Vince Flynn and all of those by Kyle Mills. I was so sorry when Vince Flynn passed away. After reading the follow-up Mitch Rapp books written by Kyle Mills, I was very taken with the way the story continued and it was a delight to read.
I have also read the early books by Kyle Mills and will now begin reading his series. I look forward to Don Bently taking over the Rapp series.
Thank you Mr. Mills for a very enjoyable continuation of the Rapp series – you will be missed.
