Kylie Lee Baker is a young adult fantasy author from Boston who is best known for the “Keeper of the Night Duology.”

She loves to describe herself as a former librarian, archivist, and author from Boston who deals with books in all stages of their life cycles.

The author was born and brought up in Boston but as an adult, she has lived all over the place in Seoul, Salamanca, and Atlanta.

Much of her work is informed by her Irish, Chinese, and Japanese heritage in addition to living abroad as both a teacher and a student. At some point, she moved to Seoul South Korea, where she taught English to children.
In her younger years, she went to Emory University where she got her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and creative writing.

After teaching in South Korea for several years, she decided to come back home for further studies, She decided to attend Simmons University, where she graduated with a master’s degree in information and library science.
She decided to study to become a librarian as she thought it would be the best way to involve reading and books in her life, while earning a living from it.

Lee Baker grew up reading all manner of Stephen King novels that she could get her hands on. This would influence the themes of her novels when she ultimately began writing even though their styles are very dissimilar.
Like many authors, her love of reading would eventually result in the development of a passion for writing. In fact, she has said that she does not remember a time when she was not writing.
As a kid, she used to fill notebooks with stories and was lucky that she had teachers and parents who encouraged her.

Kylie Lee Baker gravitated toward speculative fiction since she was captivated by the magical and expansive world of books such as “Artemis Fowl” and anime such as “Fullmetal Alchemist.”
While she was still a child, she hoped that she would one day be able to recreate what she used to read.

Baker got into young adult fiction by coincidence when she began writing her first novels as an eighteen-year-old and made most of her characters eighteen.
It was never a conscious decision to put herself into a certain marketing category but she soon developed an appreciation for the genre after reading several works her agent recommended.
Nowadays she is most influenced by the work of Stephen Graham Jones, R.F. Kuang, and V.E. Schwab.

Just like many authors Kylie Lee Baker still remembers what she was doing when she was called and informed that her novel would be getting published.
She was at that time very new at her job and tried her best not to cry since she was just two days into the job.

She was pretty shocked since the only friend she knew who got a book deal had told her, she was supposed to get a call from an editor before the offer for publishing.
Since she had not talked to an editor, she could not believe when her agent told her that she had an offer for her book. During her lunch hour, she had a celebratory meal of ice cream and scallops with a few friends who were very happy for her.
She published her debut novel “The Keeper of the Night” in 2021.

When she is not writing her novels, she can be found baking too many cookies, watching horror movies, and playing the cello.

Kylie Lee Baker’s novel “The Keeper of the Night” tells the story of a 19th-century young reaper who needs to show her value by killing some dangerous Japanese spirits.
Ren Scarborough was born half Japanese and half British but for the longest time, she has been collecting souls and living in London in the United Kingdom.
Her unusual appearance makes her stand out and results in a lot of problems, particularly from her Reaper colleagues.

One day, her powers run out of control and she had to leave London alongside her half-brother Neven who is the only person she ever cared about. Seeking a home and some acceptance, the two descend into the Japanese underworld known as Yomi.
Due to her foreign looks, she is looked upon with suspicion and needs to prove her worth. Thankfully she gets help from an exiled Reaper who could not be more handsome.
However, she now needs to kill three murderous spirits or Yokai so that she can be accepted as a Reaper.

It is a dark historical fantasy that weaves magic and folklore making for an intriguing novel that will have you hooked throughout.

Kylie Lee Baker’s novel “The Empress of Time” is another interesting addition to “The Keeper of Night” series of novels.

In this outing, Ren Scarborough the half-Japanese and half-British Shinigami and Reaper is a very different girl from the one that had to flee from England.

She now rules the underworld in Japan where she is the Goddess of Death but still has to face some pretty big problems. Her Shinigami brethren still see her as a foreigner ruling them while Neven her brother left and she finds herself lost in deep darkness.
Even worse, Hiro her fiance was killed by her own hand. But then she gets some very troubling news as some people have reported spotting some Reapers in Japan.

It will only be a matter of time before Britain’s goddess of death Ivy comes to exact vengeance. Her last hope is to appeal to the god of seas and storms that has the ability to turn the tide and send Ivy and her ship far away from her new home in Japan.
However, he will only help her if she can locate a sword that has been missing for several millennia.

Working with Tsukuyomi the moon god, who has an uncanny resemblance to Hiro his brother, she goes on a quest across the country racing against time.

As her journey sees her dealing with dangerous Yokai demons and scheming gods, she will need to learn who she can trust as the fate of her home hangs in the balance.
