The ‘Lake District Mysteries’ is a mystery and thriller novel series written by the British journalist and crime novelist, Rebecca Tope. The series comprises of three crime novels published between 2012 and 2014. The fourth novel of the series is about to be published soon in 2015. The series deals with the life of the main protagonist Persimmon Brown, better known as ‘Simmy’ by her family and friends. Simmy is depicted as a florist who works in the town of Windermere in the Lake District, England. She lives in the town of Troutbeck. Over the course of the series, Simmy is forced to deal with unpleasant situations that enables her to become an amateur sleuth. With everything turning not so rosy in her mysterious life with the passage of time, she strives to bring back the peace in her life. The ‘Lake District Mysteries’ is often confused with another series of the same name by author Martin Edwards. However, the two series’ are completely different in every senses except for their name.

In the first novel of the series, Simmy is depicted as a hardworking florist. She is shown to be busy in setting up the flowers for a wedding reception in a posh hotel, but ends up as a suspect in a murder case. She is assisted by her friend Melanie and one of her new friends Ben. In order to come out clean from the murder charges, she tries to investigate the case as an amateur sleuth with the help of Ben and Melanie by forming a unit. Although, they appear as a team, the idea of doing so seems to be a bit odd as they do not have any prior experience of carrying out investigations. But they do not care much about that and begin to go behind the trail of the real murderer and bring him to justice. The cozy mystery series set in Great Britain stands out in every aspect of being a great novel. The author Rebecca Tope has done a wonderful job in writing down the series with beautiful settings and intriguing character sketches. Persimmon Brown is shown as a kindhearted protagonist, who tries to come out of the tragedies of her life and live a simple life as a florist. The first novel of The Lake District series was published under the title ‘The Windermere Witness’ in the year 2012 by the Allison & Busby publication house. Being set in the town of Windermere in the Lake District in Great Britain, the novel describes the personal tragedy in the simple life of the main character Persimmon Brown. She used to live in the town of Troutbeck before moving to Windermere to stay nearer to her charismatic parents and get over her personal tragedies.

Initially, things begin to go well as she takes up the job as a florist. She is praised by everyone for her beautiful flower arrangements and she seems to be content with her work and keeps herself busy with her work and begins to forget about the problems of her life. However, things begin to take a different turn once again after her peaceful life gets shattered when a brutal murder takes place. During the wedding of the daughter of a millionaire in a posh hotel, the dead body of the bride’s brother, Mark Baxter is found floating in the lake. Simmy was seen as the last person to talk to the victim when he was alive and being the florist of the occasion, she becomes the prime suspect in the murder. The grief-ridden family members and relatives of the victim begin to curse Simmy and accuse her of the wrong doing. However, her friends Ben and Melanie have full faith in her and believe that someone else had committed the crime and framed her in order to save himself. Simmy decides to team up with her friends and form a group of amateur sleuths to carry out the investigations herself and find the true reason behind the murder. She learns that fact that everyone present in the wedding had their own secrets and intriguing scandals. The mother of the victim was quite uncaring towards him, whereas his father had a cheating relationship with another woman. Also the bride was about to marry a man who was more than 25 years older than her. When things take a sinister turn, SImmy finds herself engrossed in the murder investigation being the only person to have talked to the victim before he was murdered. Her investigations lead her to suspect the groom and his bunch of bachelor friends for committing the murderous crime. However, she is not sure as to who among them is the real killer as she finds all of them volatile, intimidating and full of lies and secrets.

The second novel of The Lake District Mysteries was released in the year 2013 by the Allison & Busby publishing house. It was titled ‘The Ambleside Alibi’. This novel too deals with the not so pleasant life of Persimmon Brown in the town of Windermere, Lake District, Great Britain. She is shown to be adjusting to her life as a florist. She keeps herself busy in running her florist shop and interacting with the people of Windermere in order to leave her unpleasant past behind. However, as Simmy begins to think that her life is slowly getting back on track, her fate begins to unravel its dark side. When she delivers a flower bouquet to an elderly lady, she does not know that it was carrying a hidden message. After that, the elderly woman gets murdered brutally. When another old woman gets murdered in a similar way in her own home, Simmy begins to think that her life is going to be shaken once again. She reluctantly gets dragged into the murder investigations as she gets named as an alibi by the prime suspect. Now, she is required to untangle the secrets from the lives of others in order to rebuild her own life. Also, she is required to act quickly and uncover the reality behind the murders and bring the murderer to justice before he takes away the life of another elderly woman.
