However, she does not care for the Afterlife Council politics, but she soon finds herself forging some uneasy alliances, which turn her life upside down, from igniting her love life to attracting the attention of the evil forces seeking to overthrow the council. Lana would, however, be having some bottle of beer at Purgatory Lounge with her good friend Gabriel, but apparently, it appears that she has some serious soul searching to do first.

Roquet began the publication of Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc series in 2009 when Graveyard Shift the first novel in the series was published. Currently, the series consists of over five books, and it is still ongoing.

Graveyard Shift

Graveyard Shift is the first novel in Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc, a comic mystery series by Angela Roquet. The unique central theme takes the approach of the Dead Like Me, an American comedy drama series that aired between 2003 and 2004. Imagine of the various religions from primitive pagan to the elaborate mythological through major religions, and even the New Age advocates competing for souls and even sometimes cooperating. In this setup, even the governance of the afterlife is rather delicate. That is why, Lana Harvey, sort of a gunslinger reaper gets in trouble for undertaking her assignments outside the strict guidelines, and she is forced to work out a mystery to restore the political balance in the afterlife.

Along the way, you will be treated with a fast pacing story with most of the most delighting quips and quotations introducing several chapters. Our heroine in this fantastic novel is Lana, a reaper who is hired by an organization owned and run by Grim. She is some slacker, doing her job but nothing more, and just trying to keep off the radar of the big guys. One of her friends, Josie is a real ethical reaper, who follows all the rules to the latter. The two friends own a ship since the only way to drop their souls off below and above as determined is by sailing across a sea in Limbo. Sometimes their relationship can get somehow strained, especially when some unusual things start happening in Limbo and no one knows why he or she are happening. To this two couple, add in one of their best friend, archangel Gabriel, and there you have a fascinating group.

If you are an urban fantasy lover, you will love this book; it has spirits, reapers, creatures from Mythology, Angels and many others all which are blended seamlessly into an endless entertaining pastiche. You will love the characters that Roquet has descriptively woven and the storyline that flows flawlessly from the first page to the last. The interaction between Josie, Lana, and Gabriel is one that will grip your attention to the very last sentence of the story.
