Lance Rubin
Lance Rubin is an actor and a writer. He is from New Jersey, originally, and finds that the state is much better than it is given credit for. Lance attended Brown University.

He loves Harry Potter, with “Prisoner of Azkaban” being his favorite, since it involves time travel and has one of the most satisfying climaxes ever. He also loves “Back to the Future” and used to dream of being Marty McFly when he was younger. Other things he loves include the “Before Sunrise Trilogy”, Pixar, the New York Knicks and Elizabeth Warren.

Lance is unable to walk past a stack of books on the sidewalk or on some stoop without looking at them, much to the chagrin of his wife. It doesn’t even matter that it is a stack of outdated textbooks from the fifties. There could be a gem in there that he has been wanting to read for many years in the pile. Lance just cannot walk by any one of them without looking through them.

He used to perform in musicals that Joe Iconis wrote and performed and co-wrote “The Lance and Ray Show” with Ray Munoz at the UCB Theatre. Lance also guest starred on NBC’s “Mercy”.

He has switched gears and is incredibly happy to be writing musicals and YA novels, stupid songs and screenplays and meeting inspiring teens at festivals and schools around the world on a regular basis.

Lance battles the demons of procrastination often, and is not much of a cat person, but sort of respects them. He has narrated quite a few Berenstain Bears Audiobooks, and is terrible at baseball.

Lance started writing “Denton Little’s Deathdate” in the year 2011, and had read the “Hunger Games” and knew that death was fair game in a young adult novel. He was unsure, however, how far he could go with things like drugs, sex, and swearing. He read more young adult, and saw that the current young adult landscape has room for all kinds of authentic teenage experiences, and felt liberty to write stories honestly and not hold himself back.

When the book came out, he wondered if there would shelf pulling, but it never happened, as far as he knows, which really encouraged him. He felt hopeful that so many adults, be it parents, teachers, or librarians, supported kids while they explored all kinds of experiences and worlds through novels.

“Denton Little’s Deathdate” won the ILA Young Adult Book Award, and has been adapted into a television series that airs on Snapchat. It is his debut novel and was released in the year 2015.

“Denton Little’s Death Date” is the first novel in the “Denton Little” series and was released in the year 2015. This novel takes place in a world just like ours, but everybody knows the exact day that they will die. For Denton, that day is coming in only two days, it is the day of the senior prom.

Despite having an early deathdate, Denton has just wanted to live a normal life, but his last days are filled with some dramatic firsts. First sex. First hangover. Even his first love triangle. This happens as his first sex appears to have happened not with his own adoring girlfriend, rather with his best buddy’s hostile sister. He really is not sure about it, see, his first hangover.

His anxiety starts to grow when he finds an odd purple rash making its way up his body. Could this be what is going to kill him? A strange guy arrives at his funeral, saying he knew Denton’s long-dead mom, and warns him to beware of suspicious government characters. Then, suddenly Denton’s life gets filled with some mysterious questions without much time to answer any of them.

Readers enjoyed this book quite a bit, laughing out loud a lot. Despite the fact that Denton is about to die, he is still funny and is a totally interesting character. The novel is thought provoking and emotionally affecting, and it explores some tough themes, like: loss, death, grief, and the inevitability of one’s death and how to deal with it.

“Denton Little’s Still Not Dead” is the second novel in the “Denton Little” series and was released in the year 2016. You only live once, unless, of course, you are Denton Little.

The good news is that Denton has survived through his own deathdate. Which is great. The bad news, however, is he is being chased by the DIA (or Death Investigation Agency), and he never can see his family again. He can also die at any time, now. Cheating death really isn’t nearly as awesome as Denton would have thought.

“Denton Little’s Deathdate showed readers just how funny imminent death could really be. Now in “Denton Little’s Still Not Dead”, Lance Rubin takes on some of the big questions about life. Would you save somebody from dying even if they were a terrible person? How do we cope, knowing that we could die at any time? Is it wrong to kiss the girl that your best friend has a crush on if she is actually into you instead? What if she is wearing bacon lip gloss at the time?

“Crying Laughing” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 2019. Winnie Friedman has been waiting around for the rest of the world to catch on to what she knows already: she is hilarious.

She may be waiting for a long time, though. After she bombs a stand-up set at her own Bat Mitzvah, Winnie keeps the jokes to herself. Well, and to her dad, who is her inspiration and a former comedian.

Then, on her second day of tenth grade, the funniest guy in the school laughs at something she says in the lunch line before asking her to join the improv troupe. He might even be flirting.

Right when Winnie is ready to start doing comedy again, her dad reveals to her that he has been diagnosed with ALS. Which is… not at all funny. Her dad still makes jokes, however, which feels like a good thing. Winnie is prepared to be his straight man, if that is what her dad wants. Could it really be what he needs?
