Meant to Be
Meant to Be is the first installment in the Heaven Hill series. The story features Denise as the main character. She’s currently broke, and she’s brought foreclosure papers at her home during her birthday. What can a single mother like Denise do when life throws one under the bus? She’s a jobless broker who has lost her factory job and raising her teenager twins; she doesn’t want things to go wrong.
Denise’s in too much debt, and she panics after knowing that she is almost losing her home. Like any other mother, Denise feels the need to protect her twins from the challenges of life. The foreclosure papers are the last straw in a list of bad luck, and she sits down crying even though that isn’t how she’s used to solving her problems. Later, a call interrupts her crying, and it’s from Roni, her former co-worker and a sister of a motorcycle club member, requesting if she can cover for her shift and Denise grabs the chance without a second thought.
She has never thought that her life could change with such a simple reply, and Denise has no other option since she’s desperately looking for a better life for her teenage twins. She starts working with Liam, Roni’s brother and VP in Heaven Hill MC, which puts her on the radar of the club’s president.
William Walker, Liam’s father and the club’s president demands that his son use Denise’s situation to their advantage by sending her on a drug run. Liam isn’t willing to expose Denise especially being a forbearing single mom, to their fucked up world, but he has no choice but to follow his father’s rules. Liam gives her his protection, and in return, she has to do some of the jobs that they can’t do since it’s the only way she can keep her and the children safe, especially now that Denise’s reporter friend is working hard to expose the club and the secrets it holds.
Her first instinct to Liam’s orders is to tell him ‘No,’ but then she realizes that it’s her only chance to save her home and gets herself into the illegal business.
Dead scared, Denise can’t deny her feelings of safety whenever Liam is around after putting her life aside to take care of the twins. She’s used to doing everything all alone and has no choice but to survive.
When Liam is around, she feels so free that she has a second chance to live once more, even if it’ll be a conventional life being wanted and shot at. Liam thinks that Denise is different from the people he has met before, and as she starts to embrace life, he can’t help but feel that everything is as it should be. Considering that he’s not a relationship guy, all he does is keep the club and his brothers alive, but this lasts until he meets Denise.
He starts feeling so protective of her and lets everyone know about it. However, the two have many problems, including his mean father, the people who want them dead, and Denise’s need to keep her twins safe.
Meredith, Denise’s reporter friend, doesn’t want to quit even after receiving many warnings before, and she feels that she is too far in and it’s not time for her to give up. Revenge can be a dangerous game, and Liam seems to stop at nothing to keep his family and club safe. He finds refuge in Denise as she’s a sweet, caring lady who can help him stay grounded.
He’s ready to claim her, but it’s up to Liam to make her see that he deserves her. It’s refreshing to watch Liam and Denise’s relationship grow through the novel. Meant to be is an interesting story that leaves the reader curious, wanting to see how things turn out for the other characters in the series.
From the start, Liam’s a likable character had an easy-going attitude, and was a gentleman to Denise. He only gets intense when doing his job at the club, but he’s the complete opposite when he’s with Denise. On the other hand, Denise is a biker heroine who manages to give in to the new lifestyle due to the few options available for her. She’s a good and caring mother, always wanting the best for her children. It’s so sweet to see how she was ready to do anything to keep her family safe.
