Laura Ashwood is a USA Today bestselling author of women’s fiction, historical western romance, and sweet contemporary romances.
Ashwood penned her debut novel “Royally Unexpected” in 2022 even though she had written novellas and collections before then. She now has more than half a dozen contributions to various series and about the same number of short story collections.
She has made a name for herself writing novels with very life-like relationships and characters that will fill her readers with hope and warm the heart. She also writes novels with themes of family, redemption, and forgiveness.
She currently makes her home in northeast Minnesota where she lives with her husband. In addition to her writing, she also works a full-time job yet still finds time to cook, read, and lounge with her husband.
She is a member of several writer associations including Women’s Fiction Writers oF America (WFWA) and American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).
Ashwood has always dreamed of writing books ever since she read the “Trixie Belden” series of novels when she was a child. When she was in high school, she started writing creative short stories but had to stop due to discouragement from her family.
As a young adult, she secretly amassed a ton of how-to books on writing but she just could never start writing. As such, she put the dream back on the shelf and started raising a family.
In 2018, she decided that she had to start or she would never do it and hence she converted one of the spare bedrooms into an office and started writing. Her very first manuscript was the one for “Second Chances,” the novella she published in 2018.
Laura initially penned it as part of an anthology that was then published by the local chapter of the Romance Writers of America of which she was a member.
The president of the chapter had needled her to join and submit her manuscript just three weeks to the deadline.
She is thankful to the chapter for forcing her to write and submit her novel as it gave her the confidence she needed to acknowledge that she is a writer.
Finding time to recharge and relax has always been important for Laura Ashwood. Whenever she is stressed she tends to start overthinking and gets stuck in her own head.
The good thing is that she is now an empty nester even if she tries to see her kids on a regular basis. She will usually make time to visit her kids and grandkids most of whom live no more than one hour away from where she lives.
When she is not in the mood for any traveling, she usually gets out with her husband to go fishing or ride their ATVs. When the weather is too cold, they love to just lounge inside the house watching Hallmark movies with their two very spoiled Chihuahuas.
She also likes to cook, crochet, and sew when she gets the time.
“A Groom for Ruby” by Laura Ashwood introduces Ruby Fulton, a woman that has never had it easy living with an abusive husband for years.
When he dies, she thinks she finally has the opportunity for peace independence, and a new life. She is barely surviving but also has to take care of one of the orphans in Last Chance.
The last thing on her mind is to get hitched to a husband that will restrict her once again. But then the preacher insists that she needs to get remarried.
There is nothing Callen Parker wants more than to live an honest life and leave the past behind. When he hears of the small town of Last Chance on the frontier he believes it could be the perfect place for a new start.
He arrives in town and finds work on Ruby’s farm in exchange for board and room but finding a wife is the last thing on his mind.
It does seem like a great arrangement but the town pastor is not too happy with it. He insists that they have to get married if they will be living under the same roof.
Callen profers a marriage of convenience but is terrified of the day his past may come back to haunt him. Will their marriage survive his dark past?
Laura Ashwood’s novel “A Groom for Violet” is the story of Violet Montgomery. She has just fled Charlestone to escape from an unscrupulous aunt.
She has answered a mail order bride ad and heads West but she is made a widow within a month of arriving. Violet has nowhere to turn but her mother invites her to stay in Last Chance.
She is shocked when her brother-in-law turns up and upends her whole life. Emmett Stapleton had been enjoying his career and life in Denver but had to go back home when his brother was killed in a huge freak storm.
Since he is the oldest brother he has to go back home to take care of things. What he never expected was that his brother’s widow was living in the family home and that he would be intensely attracted to her.
However, the two could not be any more different and within minutes of bumping into each other, they are clashing. But they cannot deny the incredible chemistry they have.
Just what will happen when Violet’s aunt comes to town and says she had done something very wrong in a past life. Will Emmet stand up for her or will the aunt prove too powerful for them?
“A Bride for Levi” by Laura Ashwood introduces Sarah Clark, a woman who could not be more alone having lost the only companion she had left in the world. On her dying bed, her sister had asked her to become a proxy bride in her place.
But Sarah is not sure she can continue to deceive the man that should have married her sister and his family. Moreover, she has recently started falling for Levi Nelson, even though he has not yet realized that she is not her sister.
On the other hand, is a man named Levi Nelson whose two marriages had failed, that he had now given up on women. He believes he will never marry until he is tricked by his lawyer brother and signs a marriage by proxy document.
Suddenly he is married to a woman that he has never met. But there is something weird about his new wife as she seems to care for him and is nothing like his previous wives.
Will he now do the right thing and honor the marriage or will he send Sarah away?
