Laura Landon is a historical romance author who spent a decade teaching high school. She then spent almost another decade in business before penning her debut novel and becoming a full-time author. She has always been a reader of romance novels but once she wrote her debut novel in 2010 and found some success, she was hooked. She now spends much of her time creating beautiful ever-afters for her heroes and heroines. Laura lives alongside her friends and family in the Midwest, where she is a vital member of the small community she lives in. She not only writes novels but also serves on the hospital board, organizes fund drives for social activities and amenities, and directs centennial activities for her town. She has written more than two dozen Regency romances in the “Brotherhood,” “Redeemed,” “Intimate,” “Bedford Street Brigade,” “Cast,” “Ransomed Jewels,” “Traitor’s Club,” “Rich Man Poor Man,” and “Seasons” series among several single standing novels. Her novels are published by Prairie Muse Publishing and have been translated into several languages including German and Japanese. In 2012, she had one of the best days of her life when three of her novels were published by Amazon’s Montale Romance. The publishing line went on to publish six of her novels some of which have been optioned for publishing in Turkey and Russia.

Laura loves to call herself a senior citizen living the dream. She had always wanted to become an author though she started out as a teacher of music and then retired to run a MiniMart and a Dairy Queen. It was while she was running her own business that she decided to try out writing during her downtime. Once she started writing, she knew that she had found her passion and now lives the life of a full-time author. Landon’s novels are known for their beautiful settings sprinkled with a little suspense and a mysterious twist. Her novels typically average more than a million reads every month and she is very grateful to her readers. She has said that her experience of life and times comes in handy when she is writing her romances as she knows how to make them as realistic as possible. She does a lot of research on her stories and the era in which they are set given that many readers are savvy about the Regency period in which she writes. Once she has her research right, she can then create her heroines and heroes with the flaws and strengths that are true to the era in which they are set. She will then build a backstory and nurture the relationships with a crisis coming in to set the tone for the story that ultimately ends in a happily ever after.

Laura Landon’s “Cast in Shadows” is a fascinating romance story of Gideon Sheffield. The man is the heir apparent to the Duchy of Sheffield but this fact has never even registered, given that he has been in intense pain from seizures since he was eight. These sudden seizures are sometimes so intense that they can lead to violence. His deceased mother had at one time also had similar seizures that were so painful that they eventually drove her mad and took her life. As an eighteen-year-old, he went to live at a sanitarium that was his mother’s place of refuge before she died. At the sanitarium, he is under the care of Dr. Cornwall, an expert in the field. When he turned eighteen, Dr. Cornwall had employed his daughter Eve, a strong and solid woman to join him in the practice. She is just as dedicated to the patients as her father and believes that she has found a cause for his condition, even though there has hardly been any progress for over a decade. She sees Gideon as a courageous, noble, and intelligent man just trying to make sense of a life crippled by disease. She persuades her father to let her treat him and through her gentle questions, the two soon develop a fast friendship that could turn into something more. Eve thinks there may be something in his diet that is causing his condition and introduces a restrictive diet. Soon he is having fewer seizures but then she notices some bizarre happenings that make her believe that his condition may have been intentionally caused.

“Cast in Ruin” by Laura Landon is the fascinating story of Benjamin and Rachel who are forced to marry. They both have dark secrets that may jeopardize the marriage if they were to come to light. Benjamin Waverly is the son to the Duke of Townsend but even with his name, he could not marry. The complication was that he had a secret and the moment he got married, the probability of his wife letting out his despicable secret was very high. It was a secret he had kept for years and he could not risk the name of his family getting ruined even if it meant that he would never get married. Ben believed that his fate was sealed and all he could be was a rake. But then his father forced him into a marriage that he was certain would ruin him and his beautiful and brilliant wife. His bride who was the Earl of Kendrick’s daughter named Rachael Newton had immediately rejected Ben’s marriage proposal. She had secrets of her own that not even her parents knew about. She had been weak once and had paid dearly for it but if her bigger secret were to come out, the damage would not only affect her but could ruin her entire family. She did not want to get married but her hand is being forced.

“Cast in Ice” the second novel of the “Cast in Scandal” series is the story of the Duke of Townsend’s daughter – Lady Winfred Waverley. She has a terrible secret and for years has been on the fringes of society as she sought to protect her family from the consequences of the secret coming out. If it came out, it would not only destroy her family but also the chances of Anne her younger sister getting a suitor. When she started receiving blackmail letters, she is forced by circumstance to visit the gambling hell known as “The Soiled Dove,” where she just cannot stop winning. She is an excellent gambler and she uses her skills to get the money to pay off the people blackmailing her. But her brilliance gets noticed by the managers of the gambling den and angry at losing so much money to her, they set out to ruin her. Somehow one man had gotten information on her secret and is convinced that she is harboring a murderer everyone believed long dead. But he cannot prove anything unless he gets closer to her, which he believes is what he had to do to free her from a desperate situation and bring a fugitive to justice. If he was successful maybe, she would no longer need to visit The Soiled Dove for money and maybe he could thaw her icy resolve and get her to date him.
