Laura Marie is an American award-winning and bestselling author that hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has over 50 contemporary romance titles to her name, which have sold over a million titles all over the globe, and made several bestseller lists over the years. Marie was born in Grand Haven Michigan, where she lived with her folks on a hill above a bustling marina. Her parents would move the entire family to Arkansas when she was in the sixth grade. While they moved to a beautiful farmhouse amidst the white water streams, towering deciduous forests, and green rolling hills of Hazel Valley, she struggled to fit in the rural community. It was not long before her struggling parents got tired of it all and moved the family to Springdale, Arizona, from where she finished high school, before graduating from the cosmopolitan and artsy University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. It was in college that she met her husband Terry, a cover worthy hunk of a man who practices as an interior designer and engineer in one of Oklahoma’s biggest architectural firms. She would give up her job to take care of her twins, and after getting bored of the usual junior league, civic club, and church group, she got down to writing which had always been one of her hobbies in high school. She currently lives with her husband, her two children, their two dogs, and a cat in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When she is not writing, she is likes hanging out with her kids, and cooking hearty meals for her family.
Just like many other writers, Laura Marie faced a bumpy road to becoming a successful published author. Soon after the birth of her children, the family moved to Colorado where her husband had found a dream job. It was in Colorado that she joined the Colorado Romance Writers and made some amazing friends, who encouraged her on her journey to becoming an author. She started writing when her husband bought her a PC in Colorado and by 1993 had finished the first novel that she had started while she was in high school. During this time, she read Elda Minger’s “Teddy Bear Heir” and was so impressed that she believed that she needed to publish with Harlequin American. She got her first rejection several months after sending in her first manuscript, and cried for a whole afternoon while her husband took her around in their car. She would go on to have four or five rejections before she got her first manuscript draft accepted after several reworkings. It was not until 1998 that she sold her first novel to Precious Gems, which set her on her path for a successful publishing career. Her novels have gone on to attain massive popularity among contemporary romance fans across the globe, and even got a nomination for the Reviewers Choice Award in 2005.
Laura Marie’s lead characters in his contemporary romances are a male and female character with terrible pasts. His male leads are self-made men who after living lives of hard work and hardship finally have their work pay off to become successful in their lives. They have everything in their lives handled, but have never found the tie for relationships instead opting to focus on their careers. They range from successful business owners to gangsters at the top of their game who have abandonment issues right from childhood that still haunts them. They will not date, and when they do it is on their own terms or it involves some deceit. They are however obsessed with control and hence they only enter into contractual relationships, which they can leave any time they feel things are not going their way. They are happy with the way their lives are going only to be woken from their reverie when they meet a woman that sweeps them off their feet. The women leads on the other hand are women that are just as broken the men. From the women in Heaven Can Wait, to SEAL Team Disavowed, to Harlequin American Romance, they have scars that run deep from a figurative and literal perspective. They have been involved with some of the worst of men that have made them lose all hope in love and romance. They are running away from and trying to hide some of the most horrifying of secrets that make them skittish even in the face of true love.
“Control” the first novel of the Shamed series of novels by Laura Marie is heart-stirring book that will have even the most hard-core unromantics getting back their belief in love. Ella Patton has sworn against love and surrender to a man, after she escaped from an abusive marriage and moved to a new town. She now has a new name and has met a handsome and kind stranger who despite all her caution, manages to make her break all her rules. With his passionate kisses, he manages to open the door to her heart and introduce her to passions and desires she thought she was incapable of ever experiencing again. The man is Liam Stone, a new money millionaire who has experienced a horrible past that made him guarded yet compassionate. Stumbling upon the secretive and beautiful Ella, he intends to have a short dalliance before going back to his hometown in San Francisco. However, now that it is time for him to leave and go back home, he is too attached to her that he makes the decision to convince her to leave with him. Now that he has made a proposal, the tables have fast turned leaving him in a battle for control.
“Possess” the second novel of the Shamed series is a sequel to the first. Liam Stone and Ella Patton return to the contentious and steamy love that commenced in the first story. Liam’s proposal had become a waking nightmare for the cautious Ella Patton, even when they would have been a dream come true for any other woman. She feels a deep longing for Liam Stone, but to get married to him, she first has to divorce her husband Blaine Stone. She cannot ask for anything more from Liam who is ready to share his life with him, yet she cannot contemplate facing the vindictive and unpredictable Blaine and ask him for a divorce. Meanwhile, Liam is frustrated that his immense wealth is not enough to buy Ella her freedom from her husband’s wrath. Blaine intends to ensure that Ella is back with him and in the process punish her for trying to leave him in the first place. But Liam is assisted by a force greater than money: Ella is in love with him. She ignites in him determination and desire he had never experienced that he will do anything to ensure she is free.
