She’s also had some success with a television pilot titled Clickbait. The pilot is a mock-documentary that covers the topic of journalists that work at a news agency that strives to go viral. The Exact Opposite of Okay is the debut novel of fiction from up and coming author Laura Steven. The novel concerns the main character of Izzy O’Neill. Izzy wants nothing more than to become a comic and make money and gain attention headlining comedy clubs thanks to her sizzling wit. No one ever said that it would be easy, and Izzy knows that only a handful of people that start out ever really truly make it.

Something that she has working both for and against her is the fact that she is an orphan. She’s growing up poor and she doesn’t even have her parents there for support. Izzy has dreams of being a comedian, but sometimes it seems like it’s her life that’s the real punchline.

Izzy is doing her best to get along in life and do well at school. But then one day everything is suddenly turned upside down and she has no idea why– until she does. Izzy finds out that she has gained a nickname that indicates her willingness to engage in an active romantic life. She has no idea where it could have even come from until she finds out about the source.

Like all things in the twenty-first century, the rumors seem to have come from the Internet. There’s a site out there that is quite nasty, and it is posting things about people that go to her school that are quite malicious. Even though Izzy wants to try and shrug the whole thing off, she can’t deny that it bothers her. After all, she’s only human, and she just wants to get through school without having to deal with crazy rumors and malicious sites like this one getting in the way of it.

Izzy is just like everyone else at the school. She’s not exactly having sex with everyone, but she’s not a virgin either. She wants to be able to do what she wants and thinks it’s extremely unfair that anyone is talking about her sex life in any way. It should be her sex life and on her terms, but unfortunately someone out there thinks that it’s their business to talk about what is going on and spread rumors out there for the whole world to see.

Izzy thinks that it should be her sex life and it should be kept private. After all, it’s her life and she should be able to live it on her own terms without any interference from anyone. She’s trying to just laugh the entire thing off, but that’s proving more and more difficult to do. The entire situation gets even more complex when the gossip from the site becomes more than just talk.

The site seems determined to make a mark on the school, and it seems that it’s going to start with Izzy. Pictures show up of her somehow involved with the son of a politician. Instantly it’s the talk of the entire school and it seems like there is nowhere to hide from the circulating rumors and the looks in the hall. She just wants to be a normal teenage girl, and someone out there is determined to do their very best to mess with that.

Even though Izzy would love to run and bury her head in the sand, she’s not going to do that. She may just be a girl in school, but she’s not about to let some stupid website that’s spreading gossip and trying to cause everyone harm take her down. Whether it’s one person or a group or some strange teacher with an agenda, Izzy has no idea. But the last thing that she’s about to do is let some website try and dictate what she’s going to do with her life.

The thing is that the photos have suddenly catapulted her to be at the center of what is quickly becoming a national scandal. Someone’s going to benefit off of releasing the photos, but in what why? And for what reason? Izzy has no idea, but one thing is for sure. She never was ashamed of who she was or what she did before. Even if the pictures are turning into a scandal, she refuses to hang her head and let this get her down.

Izzy’s in for a rough ride as the scandal grows steadily out of control. She’s trying to keep her head up and ignore all of the backlash the best that she can. But will there come a point where it all is simply too much for her to handle?

Full of laughs and complex storytelling, Laura Steven has crafted a sensational debut novel that teenagers across the nation will enjoy. If you are looking for a great fictional novel in the young adult genre, this is a great place to start. Check out The Exact Opposite of Okay and find out what happens in the end for yourself!
