Laura V. Hilton is an award winning author of The United States, who has written many successful novels in her writing career. Almost all the novels written by her are based on the contemporary and romance genres. Laura is particularly famous for writing down the Amish County series of novels and has successfully completed a total of three Amish series’. She was born on December 31 in one of the states of America and always had the dream of becoming an established novelist. As of today, Laura lives happily along with her husband and five children in their lovely home in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. When not busy with her writing works, Laura likes to play the role of being a pastor’s wife and takes care of her family as a stay-at-home mom. She also homeschools 3 of her 5 children, while other elder two have already been graduated by her home-schooling. Now, Laura helps them in their college studies. The love and affection that she receives from her family members have helped her to survive the deadly disease called breast cancer. All the three Amish novel series’ written by Laura feature 3 novels each. Other than the Amish County novels, she has also written a non-Amish novel called as The Appalachian Ballad Quilt, which also went on to become extremely successful. Her active work in the field of literature has helped Laura to become a member of the Christian Fiction Writers of America. Apart from writing novels, she likes to give reviews about the books of other writers as well. One of the novel series’ written by author Laura Hilton is the ‘Amish of Seymour County’ series, which consists of a total of 3 novels published between the years 2010 and 2012. The first novel of the series was published by the Whitaker Distribution publishing house in the year 2010. It was titled as ‘Patchwork Dreams’ and featured the main characters in the form of Becky Troyer, Jacob Miller and Susie. The plot of the novel is set in Seymour, Missouri, United States and introduces the primary characters in a sequential manner. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Becky Troyer is introduced as an unwed and pregnant lady in the Amish community of Missouri. She has become a pariah in the community after returning from from her Rumspringa. She realizes that she had done an unforgivable sin and confesses each and every wrongdoing in order to rejoin the church. In spite of several confesses about her sins, the peers of the church continue to ignore her. The situation becomes so difficult for her that she despairs the unlikelihood of getting married for love.
As the problems begin to rise even more in her life, Becky Troyer thinks about marrying a widower having his own family, as the only hope of coming out of the difficult situation. Her world begins to change after the arrival of Jacob Miller at the farm of her family, who comes to help with the chores during the summer time and then return to Pennsylvania at the end of the harvest period. Jacob has a girlfriend named Susie, who is not approved by Jacob’s father to be his life partner. Hence, he plans to send him to work on the farms of Becky’s family so that he will eventually fall in love with an Amish girl and bring a new blood into Seymour’s Amish community. However, Jacob is unaware of his father’s plans. While working on the farm, he tries to indulge in the various works related to farming as well as tries to cheer up Becky, whom he finds lovely but listless. Jacob takes her a number of youth gatherings and offers her an unconditional friendship. As the interactions between the two begin to increase, they find themselves drawn towards each other inexplicably. They think of overcoming their self-doubts and insecurities in order to let their love grow. However, Jacob is still undecided about their love and seems to be still in love with Susie. Becky feels that he might turn his back towards her just like all the others had done in her difficult situation.
The other novel of the series written by author Laura V. Hilton was published under the title ‘Promised to Another’. It was published by the Whitaker Distribution publishing house in the year 2012. Just like the first novel of the series, the plot of this novel too is set in Seymour, Missouri, United States, but features a different set of characters. The plot of the novel revolves around the lives of the central characters Annie Beiler, Joshua Esh and Luke. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Annie Beiler is introduced as a spirited and spunky schoolteacher. She struggles in her personal life after the man with whom she was supposed to fall in love and run away, left her in the Amish community of Seymour and went away alone. Since then, Annie seems to be in search of a man who completely commits to her Amish beliefs. After a short while, she takes her pupils on an unauthorized field trip to a Civil War battlefield, situated near the city, for which she faces heavy scoldings from the board members of the school as well as the parents of the pupils. After that, she struggles to regain the trust of the parents and the board members, and is put on probation. Now, Annie faces the risk of losing her job permanently with one more wrong step.
Joshua Esh, who belongs to the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania moves to Missouri as a part of the swapping agreement in order to introduce new blood into the community. Josh finds her attractive after seeing her for the first time, but becomes disheartened to know that she is committed to another man named Luke, even though he had left the Amish community and promised to come back someday. Upon returning, he is going to claim Annie. After that, Josh indulges into a relationship with a number of women except Annie as she was committed to Luke. But, when Luke returns, Annie pushes him away from her. She is rescued by Josh. The situation becomes even more awkward after knowing that Josh stays with Luke’s family. The awkwardness elevate even further after Josh and Luke come to about each other’s attraction to Annie Beiler. After a little while, Josh is invited by Annie’s father to stay with them, but the other members of the family do not seem to be happy with this decision.
