Lauraine Snelling is an award-winning author of a number of bestselling novel series’, from America, who loves to write novels on Historical fiction, Christian fiction and Romance genres. She is particularly famous for writing the Golden Filly series, Dakota Plains series, High Hurdles series, Red River of North series as well as a few other novel series’. Lauraine also has the habit of writing for magazines apart from the novels. She teaches at various writers’ association throughout the country. She started her writing career with her debut novel in the year 1982, titled ‘Tragedy on the Toutle’. As of today, Laurine is an active member of the Print club which has published more than two million books. She began her writing career after getting married to her husband Wayne and having 3 teenage children. At first, she had the dream of writing horse books for her children, but later developed her hobby into a prosperous career as an author. She turned her dream into reality with her first novel, which was based on the life of girl and horse. She developed this novel around the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in the Washingon State.
Lauraine Snelling continued her passion for writing and soon was able to publish a couple of bestselling novel series’. After that, Lauraine spread her domain into writing inspirational love romances for the adult readers. She developed a few more series in and around her Norwegian heritage. To this day, she remains under constant demand by her readers to bring out more inspirational novels. Lauraine follows a typical style of writing. Her writings are characterized by real life issues with compelling stories. She has penned down certain contemporary romances and fiction for women depicting the issues of domestic violence, loss, cancer and forgiveness. She has tried to give out a message in her novels that women can face even the most difficult events of their life if they come together and assist one another to overcome the difficulties. In her prosperous career as an author, Lauraine has published more than 70 books. Most of her novels have been translated into other languages such as Danish, German and Norwegian. Her writings have also been produced in the form of audio books.
Lauraine has always tried to give out a good story to her readers with sheer dedication and this has rewarded her with numerous awards and recognitions. A few awards won by her include the Golden Heart by the Romance Writers of America for her novel ‘Song of Laughter’ and the Silver Angel Award for ‘An Untamed Land’. She keeps her busy in helping the upcoming writer of the country to fulfill their dreams by teaching them the minute details about the art of writing. She also tries to reach out to a large number of people through book doctoring and humorous CD sets. Lauraine eve produces materials for query letters and various other aspects of writing processes. Other than her writing hobby, Lauraine likes to maintain flower gardens in her backyard. She loves to play with her hummingbirds and pets. She also loves to spend time with her 3 children in her home in Los Angeles, California. Lauraine loves to travel across the country along with her family in their motor coach. Apart from California, she has also lived in Vancouver, Washington. She has consistently featured on CBA bestseller lists and the Crossings Book CLub.
The ‘Red River of the North’ series written by Lauraine Snelling comprises of six novels published from 1996 to 1999. The series depicts the life story of the 20 year old Ingeborg Strand, who is destined to be a maid. She had seen many men vying for her, but she did not find any of them to be worth living with. She finds true love in a university student and her feelings for him grow stronger than friendship. But, she does not get to stay with him forever and gets separated. She is advised by her mother to leave Norway and start a new life in America. However, she does not have enough money as well as feels afraid of going there alone. She meets Roald Bjorklund, who is a widower and is planning to go to America. He is a good, hardworking man and is in desperate need of a wife to take care of his young son. He seems interested in accepting Ingeborg as his wife, but she does not think of it as what she had prayed about love. She has an important decision to make as many lives depend on it. The series revolves around the ups and downs in the life of Ingeborg and her tragic love life. The first novel of the series was published under the title ‘An Untamed Land’ by the Bethany House Publishers in 1996. It introduces the main characters Ingeborg and Roald Bjorklund with interesting twists in their love life. Ingeborg had promised not to return back to Norway after moving to America. They get lured by the promise of free land in America and begin to save every penny for their trip. After three long years, they become successful in reaching the New York City with the hope of building a happy life for themselves and their children. They arrive in the Dakota territory on the banks of the Red River of the North and get settled there. However, they get to face much hardship and have to struggle for their livelihood. They have huge faith in this untamed land and hope to recover from their hardships of the winter. The novel brought wide appreciations for Lauraine and she went to receive the Silver Angel Award. She completed a few more novels in the series before moving ahead to write another novel series.
The second novel of the ‘Red River of the North’ series was published under the title ‘A New Day Rising’ by the Bethany House Publishers in the year 1996. The novel continues to depict the struggle of Ingeborg and Roald Bjorklund in the Dakota territory. Their dream of having a farmstead and living a happy life in America gets shattered because of the hardships. The matters become even worse when Roald disappears tragically in the winter storm, which turns the life of Ingeborg into a living nightmare. She strives to keep her farm and family together against the overwhelming griefs and unhealthy circumstances. As the winter passes by, Ingeborg receives some help from the distant cousin of Roald, Haaken. He takes care of the field work, whereas Ingeborg concentrates on raising her children. She begins to feel attracted towards Haaken but things once again turn complicated when Roald’s brother arrives to take care of her family. The novel was appreciated by many readers worldwide. The critics also praised Lauraine Snelling for her unique style of writing. Feeling motivated by the response, she engrossed herself in writing similar interesting novels over the years.

Just wondering what age is “The High Hurdles” series appropriate for?
I have cancer and chemo has affected my eyes. I cannot tell you how much listening to Lauraine’s books through the library has helped me get through the cancer treatments.

Just finished The Florence Legacy. Could not help but wonder if Lauraine was actually Bree in the book? Enjoyed every page-exciting and informative regarding a tour of Italy. Would love to have been with the ladies in the group! Would love to read another book similar to this one.
Just now reading it. Have read four others by her. SO glad to find a “safe” author to read. Have printed out all her titles and will work through as many as the library carries. Also good to see other similar authors listed on this site.

I have read over 60 of Snelling books. They are so interesting and I find there are many more. Love the ones from the old days since I’m in the 80s.

I love your books. Since the pandemic I’ve been reading so many bit then I go to the public library. Batavia, IL has a lot of your books in LARGE PRINT. it’s so much easier to read I’ve been burning the midnight oil. My maternal grandparents came from Sweden and I spent a lot of tome watching cow being milked and feeding the barn cats. Love your wonderful books. I just found a few at a used book store. Thank you. Hi Cheryl – the last book in that series was A Blessing to Cherish, written last year. Nothing new has been written since then.
Really enjoy the books about “Engeborg”. I am all Norwegian. Grandparents homesteaded near Roseglen,n.d. and west of Dwight,n.d., which is west of Wahpeton, N.D. I grew up on a farm nw of Wahpeton. I am 80 years old now.
