Early and Personal Life

Growing up with a keen passion for the written word, Leah Konen would develop her skills as a writer from an early age. Harnessing her passion for literature, she would seek to harness her voice, refining and honing her approach to writing as a craft. In time this would see her become a full-time writer herself, reaching bestselling status through her perseverance and hard work.

She attended the University of North Carolina based at Chapel Hill, where she would graduate after studying English literature and journalism. Always searching for new ideas to help inspire her next big novel, she is constantly seeking inspiration from the world around her. Currently living in both Brooklyn and Saugerties, New York, she resides with her husband and their daughter, as she continues to write to this present day.

Writing Career

The first book that Leah Konen would write was published back in 2013, and it was titled ‘The After Girls,’ with it being a stand-alone Young Adult novel. All of her novels to then follow also featured self-contained narratives, from ‘The Last Time We Were Us’ in 2016 to ‘The Perfect Escape’ in 2022. Ranging between thriller and Young Adult, she would prove herself to be a hugely versatile author during the intervening years to come.

Many of her books would also go on to be lauded by the critics as well as the general public, with them becoming the best Summer read for numerous publications. Building her profile, she would fast rise in prominence, reaching readers from all over the world and creating a real name and brand for herself. Maintaining this profile of hers both offline and on, she continues to write, with her writing career growing from strength to strength.

The Romantics

Originally coming out through the ‘Amulet Books’ publishing label in 2016 on the 1st of November, this would be an early novel from Leah Konen. Not being a part of any series overall, it’s a perfect stand-alone read with a self-contained narrative, as there’s no ongoing arc. It’s a Young Adult contemporary romance novel featuring adolescent relationships, with all their many highs and lows.

After getting heartbroken by what he thought to be his first love, seventeen-year-old Gael Brennan is already struggling from his parent’s separation. He then falls for Carla, the very next girl he meets, and this prevents him from forming a relationship with his original true love, Sammy. All of this leads to the cupid-like figure of Love stepping in to help him out with the tough decisions and show him the way. Will he find his way and one true love, can he overcome the heartache, and what will become of all the romantics?

This book is both fun and humorous, making for an easy, light, and casual read, open to all ages, despite it being Young Adult. The characters themselves are very well drawn, feeling wholly realistic and authentic on the page in a manner that resonates. It’s also an interesting look at love and romance, making for an engaging story with something unique of its own to say.

The Perfect Escape

First brought out through the ‘G.P. Putnam’s and Sons’ publishing imprint, this book first arrived in 2022 on the 4th of January. It would be another stand-alone novel, this time being a thriller novel aimed at a more contemporary adult audience. Easy to follow, it has a straightforward, self-contained plot that immediately gets straight to the point in delivering the action and intrigue.

All set to bond during a weekend getaway from the city, friends Margaret, Sam, and Diana are heading up into the mountains. Hitting car trouble in a mountain town, though, they find themselves facing many of the difficulties and hurts they hoped to leave behind. That’s when Sam doesn’t return following a night out, and they left dealing with a series of increasingly eerie incidents in the small town. Can they find out what’s really going on, how well do they actually know each other, and is this really the perfect escape?

Crafting an effective thriller filled with suspense and intrigue, this works on every level it aims to operate on. The story itself is very well told, as it brings its world to life, making for an extremely engaging narrative that’s highly immersive. Its characters complement this well, too, relating to and resonating with the audience in a personal and intimate manner, as it makes for a very entertaining read.
