The “Legion of the Damned” series by William C. Dietz began in the year 1993 with the release of “Legion of the Damned”. The series ended in the year 2011 with the release of “A Fighting Chance”, which is the ninth book in the series. He also writes a prequel series, that began in the year 2012, which began with the release of “Andromeda’s Fall”. He also wrote the script for the game for Apple products.

The series is something he is most known for writing, and more of his novels are set in this world than any other.

The books are from the military science fiction genre. It has a futuristic setting that involves people making the choice to either become cyborg soldiers or die.

Alien races in the book include: Hudathan (who have been beaten two times before but are allies because of a bigger threat), Sheen, and Thraki (the Sheen have been chasing these aliens for hundreds of years). All are killer xenophobic aliens.

“Legion of the Damned” is the first novel in the “Legion of the Damned” series and was released in the year 1993. Those that are terminally ill, victims that no one can save, and condemned criminals have only one choice. They can become part of the Legion as cyborg soldiers.

Their human bodies are obliterated and they get a new life as a living weapon. The Legion has to pick a side after aliens come and attack the Empire.

Some found themselves getting hooked on the series by the third chapter, and they could not tear themselves away for very long. Fans of the novel enjoyed the experience that came with reading this and will read the next book in the series. These books are tons of fun, action packed, and books that keep the reader engaged. It is because of this that readers will keep on coming back to the series.

“The Final Battle” is the second novel in the “Legion of the Damned” series and was released in the year 1995. The Hudathans are going off on a rampage. They too have made their own group of cyborgs by using some lesser technology and candidates that are psychotics.

They have refitted hardware and reloaded their guns. Fueled up on their own insanity. They have also found the heart of the Confederacy. The Legion is going to be there to meet up with them. As it is time for the Final Battle.

Some like how Dietz writes his novels, and this one was no exception to that. Fans of the novel like the amount of details of this future that Dietz created, as it never takes away from the experience, but only adds to it. Some readers even found this one to be better than the previous book in the series. These books are at the top of the military science fiction field, full of good battle scenes. There is some great character development going on in this one. Some already can tell that this one will be a great series, even after only having read two of the books.

“By Blood Alone” is the third novel in the “Legion of the Damned” series and was released in the year 1999. To win a war, you need a lot more than just guts. Colonel Bill Booly has mixed blood and an attitude that is all by the book, it makes him a misfit in this Legion, which has gone lax. He gets the worst post in the entire galaxy, after he steps on some big toes.

Booly and troops will be the best defense Earth has when a Legion military coup capsizes the government. Legionnaire faces off against Legionnaire in a fight that will need blood, strength, and by courage.

This was another great installment to this incredible series, and some enjoy watching Dietz out do himself with each of the books, which is quite a feat. Fans of the novel really enjoy reading these books, but say it is better if you start at the beginning and you don’t skip around any. Dietz does an incredible job of writing novels that pull you in and refuse to let you think about anything else but what is going to happen next.

“By Force of Arms” is the fourth novel in the “Legion of the Damned” series and was released in the year 2000. General Billy Booly shut down the mutiny launched against the government of Earth, and face an even bigger challenge. It is a battle for every living being in the universe’s future, and they will be up against an extremist human and the killer technology he has at hand.

Some readers pick up the next book in the series, right after they have finished the one they were reading. One of the big questions one reader had was answered through reading the book, something they really liked. Fans of the novel find that Dietz is untouchable when it comes to expertise of mayhem. The epic battles in space and a twist at the end make this book another hard to put down book that is starting to become standard for the series. Some readers cannot recommend the series enough to anyone they find that enjoys reading novels.

“For More Than Glory” is the fifth novel in the “Legion of the Damned” series and was released in the year 2003. Bill Booly (Legion General) realizes that peace is something that only comes between two wars. He has just smashed one uprising down, and another one is already coming together on a world, located many light years away.

It causes a cluster of terrorism that gets just close enough to grab the susceptible Confederacy in its clutches.

These are killer action packed books that have wonderful and well drawn people in them. Fans of the novel find that this was really their favorite of the entire series. William C. Dietz is simply one of the military science fiction masters at telling story. This is simply another wonderful book in a series that will not allow readers to get much else done, because they are too busy reading this. Right after reading this one, some will start up on book six in the series.
