Not only was he betrayed by his brother, but also by his sweetheart, who had gotten pregnant by him.

Not wanting to commit murder because of the overwhelming rage that he felt and bring even further shame to his family, he headed west. He meets a French trapper, named Jacques Ledoux, and his son in St. Louis, and gets taken under this mountain man’s wing and trained as a trapper.

Is the West really going to capture Isaiah’s heart? Or is he going to feel the need to go back to his roots in South Carolina? Whichever route he picks it’ll be wherever the wind takes him.

“Chosen Path” is the first novel in the “Edge of the World” series and was released in 2021. Azariah Hancock has to flee from his home in Montgomery County, Maryland after he avenged the rape of his sister by the local sheriff’s son. The Hancock family is hated by many of the people in the county for being fair to their slaves, so Azariah and his family knew that he wouldn’t get a fair trail.

He heads to St. Louis, where he meets Liam O’Reilly, a mountain man. Liam takes the youth under his wing, teaching him the trapping trade. Azariah finds love, friendship, and a new family, and has adventures along the way.

“The Rescue” is the second novel in the “Edge of the World” series and was released in 2021. Azariah Hancock is eight years older and wiser now, and very much in love with Sweet Grass, his wonderful wife, and their two young kids. At Rendezvous, he and his Cheyenne and Arapaho compatriots hear about women and kids that have abducted by this band of ruffians, both Indian and white, to get sold off to the Mexicans. They’re able to rescue the women, however among them are three Blackfoot, which are sworn enemies to Azariah’s adopted tribe.

He Who Walks Tall is a man of honor, and he wants to bring the women back to their tribe, risk his own neck to do so. He and three of his brothers, since he’s never been one to cower in the face of any man, forge onward into Blackfoot country? Are they going to survive? Is their honor of returning women be respected? Back at Rendezvous, it’s a nervous time as Azariah’s family and friends have been waiting for them to all return.

“In the Heart of the West” is the first novel in the “Armstrong Brothers” series and was released in 2022. The three young Armstrong brothers, Elijah (15), Moses (18), and Enoch (21), aft er the death of both of their parents, decide to head west seeking their fortunes. They first head to St. Louis, Missouri, where they quickly sign up for this three year beaver trapping expedition deep into the lethal heart of the untamed West.

These brothers will contend with hostile Indians, with the unforgiving natural terrain, and with some dangerous animals, including the most feared creatures of this time, grizzly bears.

However their parents have instilled in them an unerring moral compass, this deep sense of fairness, and a profound love of family which will serve them well in the Heart of the West.

This is a well written and exciting read, and the writer did a good job of instilling fine principles, good morals, and a true sense of friendship in these three brothers. LeRoy also humanized the native tribes, and did not just make them total savages. There is some excellent action and adventure, as well as some likable characters in this one. Fans cannot wait to check out more from this series and this author.

“Land of the Free” is the second novel in the “Armstrong Brothers” series and was released in 2022. The year is 1826, and Elijah, Enoch, and Moses, who moved out West several years back from Nantucket, Massachusetts, have now settled into their new lives as trappers and family men.

The brothers, each one of whom married an Indian woman, manage to live in relative peace among the Lakota and Crow tribes, despite these two peoples being long time enemies. The tribes do band together sometimes to battle against their common enemy, which is the warring and aggressive Blackfoot tribe.

Then Enoch kills the brother of Blackfoot warrior Dog Killer during a Blackfoot raid, and this crazed and sadistic warrior, whose name refers to calling his enemies dogs while he cruelly dispatches them, has sworn vengeance. Dog Killer vows to track Enoch to the ends of the earth. He means not just to kill Enoch but also his family, his brothers, and anybody else he holds dear.

However family means everything to Enoch, and he just may have to ratchet up his own level of crazy in order to defend his loved ones.

“Home of the Brave” is the third novel in the “Armstrong Brothers” series and was released in 2022. The Armstrong brothers have been living and trapping among the Lakota and Crow Indians for close to nine years now, since the brothers moved from Massachusetts and headed West and took Indian wives, Singing Bird, Rising Moon, and Shadow Moon.

In this newest adventure, the brothers and each of their families face challenges unlike anything they’ve seen before. While heading to Rendezvous, they rescue and free Nat, this slave from Alabama. Nat’s enraged former owners have vowed to get revenge, and they start making plans to strike each brother.

However the Armstrongs have a much more immediate worry: this cunning and freakishly large grizzly bear, called Old Ephraim, has just acquired a taste for human flesh and is a dire threat to the very survival of the Armstrong brothers and their families.
