Jack of Hearts
Jack of Hearts tells the story of Jack Rothman, a teenager who is fabulously gay. Jack is seventeen, loves to party, and boys. The teenager enjoys casual sex, which is the reason why his sex life is a hot topic at school. While most of the gossip is exaggerated, Jack doesn’t care much about what others think about him. All that mattered is that he was okay with his identity. Things change when Jack starts to write sex-positive posts on his best friend’s blog. Tongues start rolling, students crowd him, and notes start arriving from fans and haters. It is clear that whatever stand Jack takes, he would always attract sniper fire, so why not just educate some teenagers on matters of sex.

It is not long before Jack starts receiving threats supposed to fade his shine. Jack is not easily cowed, but the more he writes, the darker the threats get. The person sending the threats is surely a stalker, and the shocking thing is that he knows everything about Jack, from the person he seeing to who his mother is dating. While this story is told in a light-hearted way, there is nothing fun about the things Jack has to endure in school and from his stalker. At a point, Jack is scared and who wouldn’t be when confronted by someone who knew every detail about his life. Jack tried to talk to his principal and classmates, and it sad that no one thought his fears were valid.

Jack is one fun character. His sharp humor will leave you in stitches, and the profanities in his dialogue will make you laugh out loud. This bright young man tends to say the first thing that came to his mind, but all this is done in good humor and with friendly intent. Jenna and Ben are also lovable, and so is the rest of the cast. This is not your average coming of age story. The author talks about gender identity, sex, and sexuality in a raw manner, which is uncommon in the young adult category. It is this honesty that sets it apart. The author confronts issues of homophobia, BDSM, and gay stereotypes. Thanks to the quirky characters, the author’s message is conveyed, and it is easy to understand some of the doubts, fears, and passions that young people struggle with.
Jack of Hearts is a heartwarming and brutally honest story about a gay man and sex in general. This book comes with graphic gay sex coupled with frank discussions about sexuality and the choices at our disposal. Jack’s charisma and humor will keep you glued to the pages, and it is refreshing to read a story about a gay man who is not afraid to show the world what he is made of. This book promotes individuality and self-worth, and it will empower anyone who has been conditioned to shun casual sex.

All Men of Genius
All Men of Genius stars Violet Adams, a brilliant mechanical genius and inventor who wants to attend the Illyria College of science. The renowned College was founded by Duke Illyria, a man who was known as the greatest scientific mind in the Victorian age. Duke’s son Ernest currently runs the school, and he has been doing a great job. Most of the upcoming scientists go to this College, which explains why Violet wants so much to go there. The only problem is that Illyria College only accepts boys. Not one to be discouraged, Violet plans to disguise herself as her twin Ashton, and the perfect opportunity presents itself when her father goes to America.

With the help of Ashton and their friend Jack, the teenagers accomplish their goal. Violet is admitted to the school of her dreams. Violet will discover that keeping her sex is not as easy. First, her friend Jack keeps on pulling pranks, and it won’t be long before he discovers the truth. Also, Cecily, Duke’s ward, is falling for Ashton, and there is no telling how he will react when he sees her secret. To make things worse, Violet is falling for Ernest, and she is not sure that her quickening pace, whenever he speaks to her, will go unnoticed. Can Violet survive until the end of the year and still keep her secret? While she plans to reveal her gender at the end of the first year, can she prove her ability and focus on her studies will all the pressure that comes with her secret?
In the labyrinth under the College, deep secrets are hidden, and it will not be long before they are uncovered. The author also lets the reader into Jack’s world, and it is incredible how his confidence grows in the course of the story. Away from the sciences, the characters struggle with several issues. Violet and her friends live in a world that sees women as lesser beings. Ashton feels that he has to conceal his homosexuality to be accepted in society while Miriam feels that her religion and dark skin will prevent her from marrying the man she loves.

All Men of Genius is a witty story comprising of a blend of fairy optimism and adult issues. Set is a parallel universe characterized by magical science; this story comes with exciting dialogue, and juxtaposed gender stereotypes. The characters are likable, and it is impressive how the author handles prejudices, among other issues. Away from the gender battles is the mystery surrounding the school founders and the romances that develop among the characters. You will also get a chance to meet Jack’s altered animals, including a foul-mouthed rabbit. This book is a perfect choice if you are looking for an ideal blend of science fiction and romance.
