About Linda Nagata

An American author, Linda Nagata is highly regarded for her insightful and intelligent science-fiction brand that captures the reader’s imagination. With an immediate style that instantly grabs the audience’s attention, she understands what she wants from each of her stories. She also has something to say and offer, providing exciting and creative fiction that keeps the reader glued. Having written for several years, she’s hugely gifted, writing in a unique and distinctive style that gets straight to the point.

Combining elements of the thriller and fantasy, she also understands what goes into creating a compelling narrative. Taking each story to the next level, she reaches readers from around the world, relating to them all in a manner quite unlike any other. This approach has seen her become hugely successful, making her a household name for many, regardless of their background. Letting her work speak for itself, she brings her stories to life on the page, immersing her readers in her rich and inventive worlds.

It is also her characters that are something to be admired, too, creating fully three-dimensional personalities that come to life. Directly communicating with the readers, they resonate personally, as they feel wholly authentic and genuine. She is also well-known for having a rich imagination that draws out intriguing and highly interesting ideas. With a lot more to come still, she definitely will not stop any time soon either, as she has many more titles planned for release upon the horizon.

Early and Personal Life

Born in 1960 and raised on the north shore of Oahu in Hawaii, Linda Nagata grew up with a keen interest in all things literature. Continually refining and honing her craft, she would come to harness her voice as a writer, saying what it was that she wanted to say. Attending the University of Hawaii, she would graduate, gaining a degree in zoology, all the while practicing her craft as a writer.

Working in various jobs and positions, she would assume a range of different roles before becoming a full-time writer. From working as a programmer of database-driven websites to being a book designer and publisher, she’s always searching for new and inventive ideas. Constantly seeking inspiration from the world around her, she’s a mother who continues to write from her home in Maui to this very day.

Writing Career

The first novel that Linda Nagata would write was titled ‘The Bohr Maker,’ and it would come out back in 1995, being the first in the ‘Nanotech Succession’ series. She would soon follow this up in 1997 with ‘Deception Well’ and later ‘Vast’ in 1998, making up her first full science-fiction series. Other series would later follow as well, including ‘Stories of the Puzzle Lands,’ ‘Red Trilogy,’ and ‘Inverted Frontier,’ to name just a few.

She would also write a number of standalone works of fiction too, starting with ‘Limit of Vision’ in 2001 and then ‘Memory’ in 2003. Contributing to various different collections too, she’d also write numerous short stories, clearly showing her versatility as an author. Winning several awards and nominations as well, she’s received the Nebula Award in 2001 and 2014 and the John W Campbell Memorial Award on successive occasions.

Going Dark

This would be the third in the science-fiction series titled ‘The Red,’ which would follow the exploits of the soldier James Shelley. Originally coming out on the 3rd of November back in 2015, it would carry on from the previous books with its dystopian setting. Released through the ‘Gallery/Saga Press’ imprint, it’s best that they’re read in order so as to make the most from the series overall. Providing the reader with more of what they’ve come to expect from the series, it does provide some surprises of its own along the way.

Leaving both his lover Delphi and his companion Jayne Vasquez with the entire fortune he’s acquired from an oligarch, James Shelley is believed to be dead. Serving the purpose of the Red, he’s a soldier who’s earned his place among them, now accepting covert missions given to him. Keeping the world away from descending into complete chaos, he maintains order, but now his missions take him back to Delphi and Jayne, and he must do whatever it takes to keep them protected. Will he be able to manage it, can he hope to restore order once again, and what will happen as he now currently finds himself going dark?

As a science-fiction thriller, this really manages to deliver on every level in what is an exciting and action-packed story filled with drama. It’s definitely got a lot to offer, as it’s highly entertaining, along with plenty of character development as well, in its well-told story. The story itself is very well-paced, keeping the reader’s attention for the entire duration of the novel, keeping its audience invested.

Needle

Originally coming out in 2022 on the 12th of July, this would be the third novel in the ‘Inverted Frontier’ science-fiction series of books. Carrying on from the previous titles, it’s best that they’re all read in order, as it has many of the same settings and characters from before. Initially released through the Kindle publishing platform and the ‘Mythic Island Press LLC’ outlet, it’s a huge and epic saga. Continuing in a similar vein to what came before, it’s a fun and engaging series as well, with a lot to think about and offer the reader.

Given an otherwise strange gift by Lezuri, Urban has an essential part of the puzzle in the form of a needle that’s able to slice light into rainbow glints. With all of Lezuri’s knowledge contained within it, Urban must discover how to open it and all the power that it holds. As Dragon and its fleet of outriders arrive at the edge of the Tanjiri System, Urban must now contend with this new entity, using the power the needle holds. Can he possibly deal with it all, though, where will this journey take him, and what is the full true power of the needle?
