Lindsay Harrel is an American contemporary Christian romance author best known for the “Port Willis Romance” series. Harrel was the nerdy child who was always excited about learning and one of the very few who loved it when she had to go back to school at the end of every summer. Right from when she was a child, she could not get enough of books. She would always get her parents to buy her a stack of novels that she would read on the road to her grandparents’ place in Oklahoma. Harrel remembers sneaking into her mother’s room to try to read the books and always getting caught. As a college student, he found inspirational fiction and it was not long before she was devouring everything, she could get her hands on. It was from this point that she started thinking of becoming an author.

While it was only in college that Lindsay started seriously thinking of becoming a professional writer, the signs that she would be one were there from very early on. As a six-year-old, she had written “How to Eat Mud Pie” and followed it up with several other short stories that were folded and stapled together by her mother. In high school, she took classes in creative writing and then decided to go into journalism since she thought she stood a better chance earning a living in that field as opposed to the rough and tumble of fiction. However, for more than ten years, her desire for creative fiction was on the back burner as she wrote for college newspapers, writing beauty and health-related consumer articles, copywriting for a digital marketing agency, and editing the curricula of two local universities. But in between all that writing, the love for fiction roared back into life and in 2011 she started writing again. She became a member of My Book Therapy and American Christian Fiction Writers and soon after she started blogging. By 2012, she had finished her first manuscript and got her first agent in 2013. In 2016, she published her debut novel “One More Song to Sing” and she was on her way. She has since published more than six titles in the “Port Willis Romance” alongside single standing bestsellers such as “The Joy of Falling.”

Lindsay Harrel met her husband when they were in high school though they would only become friends in college. It was not until they were juniors that he asked her out and they dated for the whole of senior year of college and finally got married in 2006, soon after graduating. The early years of their marriage were chaotic with school and work, as she pursued a master’s in English while he went to law school. They soon bought a house and began working towards their dreams though Harrel always felt that something was missing from her life. In 2014, they had their first son and she went from working part-time to finally quitting her job to take care of her son and finally try to achieve her dream of becoming a professional author. In the meantime, she made some money from freelance copywriting and got her second son in 2017. She also got more involved in church and took her faith more seriously and thinks that it is through it that she has been able to navigate motherhood and a life of authorship.

Lindsay Harrel’s novel “Like a Winter Snow” is an uplifting and charming romance about family loyalty, true friendship, and unexpected love. The novel opens to a wedding set during the holidays with the beauty of snow providing a sweet backdrop. Joy Beckman the women’s counselor has always helped and been a friend to many. That is why she left everything so that she can go back home and take care of her mother who has Alzheimer’s. Joy may not have a love life or any career but she is taking care of others, which is something that she does best. While it is not an easy life, she gets joy knowing that it is the right thing to do. But then she has to travel to Cornwall in England when she is invited to the wedding of her best friend that is happening in December. In England, Joy gets busy helping Sophia her friend check-off items on her list. During the process, she meets a man who makes her heart miss a beat. But the only problem is that he is a British man who is a resident of wet and snowy London while she has parents who live in the bright and sunny Florida that she loves. She tries her best to resist his charms but it is not o easy. She is at a crossroads as she has to make the choice between the new and exciting and the old and familiar.

“Like a Christmas Dream” by Lindsay Harrel is the story of Sarah who has been held back by overly possessive parents. “Follow your dreams” has never been their motto though Sarah is determined to defy her wealthy parents this coming Christmas. Instead of doing what she has always done during the holidays, she goes to visit a small English village where her alienated sister is making her dreams come true by opening her bakery. They have not seen each other in years and Sarah thinks it is going to be awkward. What she did not expect is to meet the charming British photographer Michael Hammett. He challenges her perspectives and it is not long before she is thinking that maybe she could get life without being too controlled by her parents. But her father counters by threatening what Sarah adores most of all. Will her newfound independence of thought be enough to drive her to finally live on her own terms? It is a heartwarming tale of faith-filled romance, a story of love and sisterhood.

Lindsay Harrel’s novel “The Joy of Falling” is the tragic story of Angela and Eva that lost their adrenaline junkie husbands to a freak scuba diving accident. They are now attempting to get through the grief but they are not having much success. Angela can barely make ends meet and is angry at the world and her husband, who she believes has abandoned her to bring up three children on her own. Meanwhile, Eva is stuck in the past reliving the love and inspiration she got from her husband. She gets a new lease of life when she learns that before Wes and Brent died, they had enrolled for an ultra-marathon race in New Zealand. Eva immediately calls her friend begging her to go with her to New Zealand and she finally acquiesces as she too is curious about the race. Training is intense but it is nothing compared to the demands of the race. Their journey becomes more interesting when they meet Brent’s best friend Marc who is taking part in the race and a writer named Simon King who wants to write their inspiring stories. With every day spent with King and Brent, they finally get the courage to ask the questions they were too afraid to ask. Could they finally find a way to move forward and find hope?
