Lisa Philips is a Christian and suspense author born in Southern-On-Sea, United Kingdom. She attended Calvary Chapel Bible College. Before her graduation, she figured out that she was a writer, and since then, she’s taken writing courses with the Christian Writers Guide

She met her husband in college and now leads worship together in a local church. Some of her work include the Last Chance County and WITSEC Town series.

Expired Refuge
Expired Refuge is the debut in the Last Chance County series. Mia is an ATF agent but returns to her hometown after getting injured in a harrowing takedown that involved the use of deadly force, where she ended up killing a man. She goes back to her home to recuperate. Conroy is a cop and is soon being promoted to be the chief of police. Several years back, Conroy dated Mia’s sister, and after she got killed in a car accident, Mia blamed Conroy for partially being responsible.

Strange things begin happening around Mia, and some of the crimes seem like the last job that Mia did that didn’t go as planned. Now Conroy is trying his best to keep her safe and ask for her forgiveness concerning her sister’s death.

She discovers that her only remaining sister, Meena, is involved with a dealer whose brother Mia killed during the takedown, and he appears to be seeking revenge. She realizes that it wasn’t right to blame Conroy for the accident, and she needs to make peace with him and work together for her safety now that she has found out that someone is stalking her.

Conroy cares so much for Mia and is determined to stop at nothing until he is sure she’s safe. At first, Mia feels like she doesn’t need him to protect her, but when someone starts recreating her mistake, she has to face her inability to forgive Conroy as it’s the only way to stay alive. In this town, Conroy is known for fixing problems of this nature. Mia has to come to terms with bitterness after the past events and show her true feeling for Conroy, but they’ve to survive the current danger first to start thinking of the future. Time seems to have expired on her refuge, and death is knocking, but Conroy isn’t ready to let that happen.

Will Conroy be able to Keep Mia safe?

The balance between the story plot and relationship building was well done. The story is full of suspense, action, romance building, and faith issues as the characters realize that a good relationship with God is the best thing they can have in their lives.

It’s a message of the freedom one gets after letting go of bitterness, anger, resentment, and hate. Expired Refuge is filled with suspense that leaves the reader anxious, wanting to know what happens next.

Sanctuary Lost
Sanctuary Lost is the first novel in the WITSEC Town series. US Marshall John Mason had been working undercover for more than a year when the investigation he was conducting blew up in his face. His boss and his brother offer him a job in the town of Sanctuary, which is off the maps, and no one knows about it, but his brother considers his own.

John’s ex-wife brings her son and requests him to sign the papers that give him guardianship, then leaves. His brother informs him that his son’s life is in danger. John gives in to go the town as a sheriff for a trial period of one month. It’s a secret town with 182 people all living under witness protection. He plans to use that one month to connect with his son, but the mayor’s wife is soon killed. The investigation to find the killer interrupts the father and son bonding time when the whole town thinks that the suspect is the woman John feels attracted to.

Who might be framing her and why?

Andre Caleri was once forced to become an assassin, but she gave up that life ten years ago, turned to state evidence, and now lives in a Sanctuary. She’s now born again and wants nothing much to do with the people in the town. She lives a life of a loner and is always quiet. Andre is attracted to the new town’s sheriff and loves the son, but she’s afraid that he will want nothing to do with her after knowing her past.

After a woman is killed and the case turns against her, she isn’t willing to fight for her life and believes God will fight for her. John is trying hard to find the killer while fighting against biases, secrets, and pressure coming from all corners. Sanctuary turns out to be a place where people’s crimes come to light.

The lots of actions and suspense keep the reader guessing. It’s impressive that John wants to be a good father to his son, whom he hasn’t seen in more than a year. He tries to balance working on the murder case while protecting the suspect who the town thinks is guilty and taking care of his son.

Andre Caleri is an amazing heroine, and like everyone in the WITSEC town, she has a past, but hers is worse than the others. Because of her past life, she chooses solitude life and only has a few friends even after staying in the sanctuary for ten years.

She’s peculiar to everyone in the town, and most of them don’t like her because they feel that she doesn’t fit there. Andre stays strong, and the author shows her quiet strength from her faith in God. Her faith contrasts with John, who has little faith as she has more understanding about mercy and what it means to be redeemed. John doesn’t like the word mercy as to him means there is no justice.

Lisa Philips shows how Andre struggles with her faith in God as she trusted that God has a good plan with everything that was happening but was also concerned that His will might mean she has to face Him sooner than she thought. Sanctuary Lost’s a Christian book without being preachy and unrealistic.
