Lisi Harrison is a Canadian-born author of fiction. She was born on July 29, 1970. She was born in Toronto, Canada. Raised by her parents Shaila and Ken Gottlieb, she has a brother and sister.

Harrison attended a Hebrew school until the ninth grade when she went to Forest Hill Collegiate, a public high school. She moved to Montreal in Quebec after graduating high school and attended McGill University at eighteen. While Harrison initially started out school as a film major, she left when she realized writing was what she really wanted to do. She transferred schools and went to Boston, Massachusetts in the United States to attend Emerson College and continue her writing, later graduating with a B.F.A. in the area of creative writing.

After graduating from Emerson and prior to becoming a full-time, best-selling author, Harrison worked and lived in New York City for fifteen years while working at the American television channel MTV, where she worked as the Senior Director of Production Development. Her job was creating as well as developing completely original programming that would later air on MTV.

While working at MTV, Lisi says that she learned not only what appeals to teens, but how to hold someone’s attention and that everyone wants to be accepted and fit in, “no matter how old they are”, lessons that would inform her later writing. In fact, her bestselling series The Clique was partially inspired by her job at MTV as it reminded her of life in middle school. She began writing the series’ first two novels while still working at the network. This was in part to be sure that if her novels didn’t work out, she would still have a job (following the old advice to ‘not leave your day job’).

However, Lisi Harrison’s gamble paid off and when she sold over nine million copies of her Clique series, she officially left her MTV job in 2004 to focus on her writing career and writing full-time. There are now twenty-one books in total and that includes also a prequel, summer collection with five books (each focusing on one girl in the clique’s summer vacation), and a dictionary-type book, The Cliquetionary.

Harrison left New York in 2007 to move to California with her family and together they currently reside in Laguna Beach. She writes fiction primarily for young adults, although readers can be of any age and there have been adults that have read it! She is best known for her series of fiction, The Clique, the Alphas series, and the Monster High series. The Clique reached number one on the New York Times’ best-sellers list.

The Alphas series has four books in it, as does Monster High, a series that Harrison contributed to. The Pretenders series debuted in 2013 with the publication of her first book. Harrison is happy to say she is a member of her own dirty book club with the upcoming publication of a book by the same title that she wrote for adults.

The Clique is the first novel in the series of the same name. It focuses on a group of girls that belong to a clique that rules the social scene when it comes to their private school. They go to an exclusive school in Westchester, New York. The head girl of the group is without a doubt Massie Block. With her brunette bob and shining smile, Massie rules the school with the help of her best friend Dylan.

Dylan has a tough job as she must constantly be by Massie’s side while also constantly trying to shake the fifteen pounds she cannot get rid of, no matter how many shakes from the Atkins Diet she drinks. If only she could get this weight off! There’s also Alicia Rivera, a pretty girl who gets away with just about everything because she seems innocent and sweet! This allows her to get away with just about everything, and this sneaky member of the clique would love to steal away the throne from Massie and just might be the one to do it.

Kristen is the other member of the clique. Partially due to her parents’ financial struggles, she’s been trying to desperately fit in. Sometimes that might mean insulting you, but one thing is for certain, Kristen works hard and is certainly smart. She’s the brains of the group and is always the one getting A’s on the tests and excelling in school.

Then there’s Claire Lyons, the new kid from Florida. She’s staying with Massie and her family while they settle in. That’s a little annoying because Massie’s family insists that the new girl must be part of their gang. Maybe she might need a makeover to fit in, but there’s no reason the girls can’t teach Claire to be one of their own. If they feel like it. Check out this bestselling book and see what life is like as part of the clique!

Best Friends for Never is the second novel in this series. It was published in 2004. The Clique has returned, and the gorgeous and trendsetting Massie Block is still the one that leads her group. But it’s a lot of work to keep your position at the top, and there’s always another girl gunning for your position. Massie needs to secure her status.

As such, she decides to throw the school’s first-ever boy and girl Halloween party. But when her parents make her invite everyone in her grade and Claire as well, she starts having second thoughts. Meanwhile, Dylan has finally lost that weight, although she’s still got as much attitude as ever. Dylan wants to start dating now that she’s got zero inhibitions and feels more confident than ever. Maybe she’ll meet a cute guy!

Kristen is back too, still focused on school and securing her position as one of the most popular girls at their exclusive private school. And then there’s Alicia Rivera. This girl is still is as scheming and savvy as ever. When the group starts to come undone and there’s inner turmoil, will she go for the crown? And can Claire ever be truly accepted by the group? Pick up this fun book and find out!
