London Lovett is a bestselling cozy mystery author and lover of pastries. Her “Port Danby” series of cozy mysteries has been a favorite of many readers for several years now. Lovett made her publishing debut with the writing of “Marigolds and Murder” in 2017, Since then she has gone on to become a prolific author that now has more than thirty titles to her name in the “Starfire Cozy Mystery,” “Firefly Junction,” and the “Port Danby” Cozy Mystery series of novels.

Lovett made the decision to become an author about two decades ago when she teamed up with her sister to write a historical romance novel. They both loved reading Regency romances and dreamed of writing one. It turned out to be a more difficult quest than they had imagined. The endeavor was made even more difficult by the fact that there were two minds that sometimes worked at odds with each other. But they persisted and soon had several novels self published. Soon after, her sister lost enthusiasm for writing but London Lovett soldiered on alone until she published a young adult novel under a pseudonym that did very well. She got the inspiration for the “Port Danby” series of novels from a desire to have a fun loving and smart lead character. She had always loved stories set in coastal settings and this is what resulted in the creation of Port Danby, a fictional town she would have loved to live in.

Just like many authors, London Lovett was a huge reader of mysteries wrapped in romance before she started writing them. She particularly loved Barbara Michaels and her pseudonym Elizabeth Peters since they write mystery novels that have a romance element to them. When she started writing cozies she wanted to write a combination of the two genres which is what she still strives to do. Lovett has said that her favorite part of being an author is that she gets to create interesting and fun characters even if she doesn’t like coming up with the plots. Outside of writing, Lovett has several hobbies now that she retired from teaching. As an outdoorsy type of person, she loves a long bike ride or hike. She also loves to bake and cook for her family.

London Lovett’s “Marigolds and Murder” is a novel set in a spooky Victorian town and features a heroine with an insatiable curiosity. The lead is Lacey Pinkerton who quit a very lucrative job and a reputation for a super sensitive nose that was very useful in the perfume industry. She went back home to Port Danby with Nevermore, her tabby cat and Kingston, her pet crow. With a full cast of quirky friends and neighbors, her new home seems like just what she needed. Away from the hectic bustle and hustle of the city she has managed to find happiness and peace. But her million dollar sense of smell comes in handy as she discovers one of her neighbors is dead. Lacey then gets embroiled in a murder investigation alongside James Briggs a handsome local detective. She is determined to solve the murder mystery and find the killer before more people are killed.

“Carnations and Chaos” by London Lovett opens to Lacey having volunteered at the Annual Food Festival at Port Danby, that is expected to bring a lot of money to the merchants in town. The chefs, cooks, and food bloggers descend on the town and alongside them come secrets, fans, revenge, foodies and rivalry. But then one of the most hated and in some quarters most loved authors turns up dead and Lacey offers her million dollar nose to the investigation. Detective Briggs thinks that her overly sensitive and uncanny nose will come in handy. Over time, Detective Briggs starts developing a fondness for Lacey even as she has also come to like him a lot. But Briggs seems to have a problem with Dash, her charming neighbor being around so much.

London Lovett’s “Mistletoe and Mayhem” sees Lacey Pinkerton excited as the yearly Harbor Holiday Lights Flotilla is coming up. Since it is her first time spending Christmas in the small town, she cannot wait to experience what she has heard is a great holiday. Lacey has a ton of friends in town and Detective Briggs who is one of her favorite people needs her help on some homicides. Her sense of smell has helped him out once and it promises to do so once again. When the flotilla finally arrives bringing a lot of activity to Port Danby, things are about to get very interesting. The owner of the ship is killed but given how many people are in town, it does seem as if finding the killer may be impossible. But Lacey’s keen sense of smell and the tenacity of Detective Briggs may have something to say about that.
