Author Loree Lough, at one time, used to sing for her supper. That was a long time ago, before she was a best selling author that has about seven million copies of her books in circulation. Every now and then, she will still break out her old six string guitar and sing a song or two. Mainly, though, she just writes and then she writes some more. Her work has earned her more than one hundred awards in her career as a writer(either Readers’ Choice or industry).
She enjoys sharing her stories and lessons (which she learned the hard way) with people. Her comedic approach that she has, when describing these hard learned lessons, helped her be sought after as she often appears as a guest at many functions like creative writing courses (both college and high school level), writers’ organizations, government institutions, and book clubs. She speaks at these functions both in this country and in foreign countries.
Even with many novels published and all of her awards, it is still unlikely that she will ever retire to her cozy cabin, located in the Allegheny Mountains.
She has written the “Secrets on Sterling Street” series, the “First Responders” series, the “Those Marshall Boys” series, the “Suddenly” series, and the “Lone Star Legends” series.
“From Ashes to Honor” is the first novel in the “First Responders” series and was released in the year 2011. Austin Finley (a police officer in New York) ignored a call from his brother just minutes before a pair of jets changed United States history. His brother was bugging him for days at the time and then died while in the World Trade Center.
This regret makes bitterness and hate eat Austin alive, and it is recommended that he take desk duty by Mercy Samara (who is a counselor). As a result of this, Austin resigns.
Mercy has her own awful memories haunting her from 9/11, and she starts working as a school’s counselor in Baltimore. Austin, working as an EMT, responds to an emergency and, as fate would have it, it is at Mercy’s school. Both are stunned and on the defensive around each other.
The painful memories that they share bloom, from suspicion, into actual friendship. And then it turns into romance. Big questions still remain, however. Can they really hope to get past the harsh words and judgments they leveled at each other before? Is what happened to each of them bring them closer? Or will they be driven apart, as the tenth anniversary of 9/11 draws near?
Some felt that it has a lot of emotion (to the point to where some may need tissues), there is a lot of truth, realness, and it is genuine; some could not put it down because of all of this. Fans of the novel found that they found a new author to be a fan of in Loree Lough after reading this, and plan on reading as much as they can of her work. This is a hard to put down book that, and the message stuck with readers. Some enjoyed getting to know the characters in the book, and Lough does a stellar job of getting the reader to care about these people.
“Honor Redeemed” is the second novel in the “First Responders” series and was released in the year 2012. Honor Mackenzie is a highly skilled team leader Search and Rescue, and she works almost as hard guarding her secrets as she does when training Search and Rescue dogs. Matt Phillipss is a widowed reporter for the Sun, his old job in Search and Rescue is nowhere near as important as keeping his ten year old twin sons safe.
A jumbo jet crashes close to Baltimore on a cold night, and both of their jobs put them close together at the gory scene. It forces them to take a look at the difficult choices that led to their being single forever.
Matt attempts to deal with how he feels for Honor, and fins out that she has yet to report in since she began looking for a missing kid. He reverts back to the training he got in Search and Rescue, and leads the search, while an awful winter storm hits the area. Is he going to be able to find her before time runs out? Should he be able to, will they be living alone or figure out how to make things work with each other?
Readers feel Lough was able to make them care about the people she put in her novel, and she was able to write a stellar story that was hard to put down. Fans of the novel found the characters in the story to be lovable, and the story was interesting. Lough is able to put quite a bit of comedic moments in her stories, something that some enjoy, as it breaks up a lot of the serious parts that she also puts in her work.
“A Man of Honor” is the third novel in the “First Responders” series and was released in the year 2012. Dusty Parker joins the search for a teenage girl that has gone missing on a spring morning. He works as a pastor and a team member working search and rescue, both jobs are part time; he also works full time as an administrator at a school for troubled boys. He has been partnered up with a volunteer and a teacher at an inner city school named Grace Sinclair. They find something that bonds them both to each other in ways they could not have expected.
They start building their life with one another, and there is a visitor that makes the pair open their homes and hearts even more. There is a threat on the horizon and it all changes on a horrifying night.
Readers were left on the edge of their seat, pretty much throughout, and you will find yourself laughing at various moments in the book. These are characters that are flawed, complicated, engaging, and realistic people. Fans of the novel enjoyed seeing how Lough was able to get the couple together in this book; they felt it was quite simply a work of art. Some felt like this was a refreshing change of pace from the usual books that they read.
