Lori Handeland is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author who has written more than 60 works of fiction. Her short stories, novellas, and novels have been published in several genres from historical romance, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance. After more than twenty-five years of writing, she has achieved much success and won many accolades. In 2018, she published “Just Once,” a blockbuster bestseller than announced her entry into women’s fiction. The novel tells the multilayered story of two women who love one man and their journeys of forgiveness, loss, sacrifice, and grief as their lives intertwine. Lori also publishes sexy and gritty western historical romance under the pen name Lori Austin. Even though her western historical romances are written in the same tone and voice as her other works, they are not as scary. Both Handeland and Austin are humorous, dark as well as sexy in their writings. She decided to write under a pseudonym since she wanted to branch out into a different genre but her publisher would not let her until she was done with other contractual obligations.

Lori determined that she would become an author when she was aged only ten. Before she even knew how to type, she was sitting in front of a typewriter playing with the keys. She told her mother that she was writing a space opera story about a family that traveled to space. Since she was an only child most of her summers were spent watching the TV at the typewriter and reading books. Handeland remembers thinking to herself that she would never run out of books if she knew how to write her own novels. During her teenage years, Lori must have written more than fifteen historical romance manuscripts that never saw the light of day. However, they did teach her how to write a good proposal as she got better over time and got people to look at her work. In her twenties, the need to make a living took precedence while writing was sent to the back burner. For a time, she was a waitress and then decided to go back to school and train as a teacher. It was while she was teaching that she read “How to Write a Romance and Get It Published,” that she credits for changing her life. She read about the Romance Writers of America and a few days later she had joined and was learning all manner of things about romance writing while writing in her free time. After writing only five pages, she entered the manuscript into a contest and won the prize of having a Harlequin editor read her manuscript.

In 1993, Lori sold her first western romance and since then she has written a ton of novels. She has written more than forty works in the “Second Chances,” “Lori’s Classic Love Stories,” “Luchettis,” “Night Creature,” “Phoenix Chronicles,” “Shakespeare Undead,” “Sisters of The Craft” series alongside several singles standing novels, omnibuses, collections, novellas, and contributions to other series. Her work has been critically acclaimed and won many prestigious awards including the Romance Writers of America RITA for “The Mommy Quest” that won Best Long Contemporary Romance and “Blue Moon” that was the winner of the Best Paranormal Romance Award. She has also won the Best Paranormal National Reader’s Choice Award and the Best Harlequin Superromance Award by the Romantic Times. Lori Handeland currently resides with her husband in Southern Wisconsin. In between reading and writing, she loves to walk Arnold their rescue mutt and occasionally visit her two grown sons overseas.

Lori Handeland’s “Blue Moon” opens to Miniwa, Wisconsin besieged. But it is not by the typical tourists that invade the town in the summer. The area is full of shy wolves that usually avoid humans but have recently begun stalking them as prey. People have been going missing while something primitive and brutal has been happening in the forest. Jessie McQuade is an officer who has been on the force for years but she has never been as fascinated as when she sees a buck-naked man on the hunt for a rogue wolf. He is a Native American activist named Professor Will Cadotte who is obsessed with the wild wolves. Ever since their encounter, Jessie is unable to concentrate on her work and this can be deadly for someone in her line of work. Against her better judgment, she accepts the Professor’s help and soon her penetrating and dark eyes see a part of her heart she never knew was there. It is terrifying as much as it is exhilarating. The town’s darkest secrets are being exposed and no one is safe: not lovers, friends, or strangers. As Jessica investigates a bloody trail, she unearths a shocking truth that will force her to make a huge decision, particularly with the moon coming out.

“Hunter’s Moon” by Lori Handeland is a beautiful story of a kindergarten teacher named Leigh Tyler. She once had big dreams that were transformed into nightmares when something she did in the past comes back to haunt her. She now lives to hunt werewolves as love is not something that she can even contemplate having. Leigh believes her mission in Wisconsin is for something important but as long as she is instructed to kill furry and fanged demons, she will be happy. But something smarter and stronger than what she has been hunting is about to come onto the scene. Damien Fitzgerald is an intriguing and intoxicating man who is making Leigh reconsider her vows. She had vowed to never let anyone get her heart or into her bed but when it comes to Leigh she seems almost powerless. Every time she spends with him, she gets dangerous but familiar urges, which may just become too strong for her to resist. But she works a dangerous job and does not want him to get hurt trying to help her, particularly when she knows that she is being stalked by something from the forest.

In Lori Handeland’s “Dark Moon” introduces Elise Hanover, a woman that can feel the pull of the moon in the most unusual of times. She is a werewolf who is disgusted by the violent bloodlust inside her but is fascinated by the dark phase of the moon. Hanover had met and fallen in love with Nick Franklin in college and he was responsible for awakening her beast. When she found that her lust for the man had awakened her wolf, she had fled from him as she did not like the furry side she never knew was inside of her. For the past five years, she has been hiding in Montana in a highly secret location trying to find a breakthrough. She believes she is about to find the cure for lycanthropy when she is rudely interrupted. Standing in her laboratory is Nick who went to Quantico and is now a Federal agent. Minutes after leaving the lab, the entire building is engulfed in an explosion, and all the serum and research she had been working on to reduce her bloodlust is gone. Together Elise and Nick need to find a cure for her before the rise of the next full moon.
