It didn’t take much convincing for her to finally give into the urge. Lori initially operated a dog training business in Austin. The business was purposed towards helping people with aggressive pets. The work was pretty fulfilling for the author who eventually became an expert in the arena of dog bite analysis.

However, Lori eventually sold the business, and by the time the writing bug struck her, she was truly ready to commit to writing. And ever since her first book was published in 2013, that is exactly what the author has done.

Lori Ryan likes to plot her stories out before she writes them. Most of the plotting happens in her head, though she will take the time to create a basic outline on some occasions.

It takes time for Lori to transition from the plotting stage to the writing stage. She spends a lot of time playing the scenes of her story out in her head over and over again until she is satisfied with the results.

Lori says that she knows she’s ready to write once she has the first few chapters perfectly plotted out in her head. Once she starts writing, she is open to being surprised and letting the story take unexpected turns.

Most of Lori’s energies are expended in the revision process. Once she has a first draft written, she gets her friend to skim it and then, using their feedback, refines her plot and the relevant chapters.

Lori endeavors to encourage every indie writer to invest in a professional editor. Lori Ryan believes that the indie publishing industry has a bad reputation because so many indie authors are unwilling to invest in professional editors and cover artists.

Lori’s hope is that the indie publishing industry will last forever because the platform provides opportunities for authors like her to take literary risks. Lori knows of so many authors who haven’t achieved their publishing dreams because they are waiting for traditional publishers to come knocking. She believes this to be a mistake in light of all the opportunities that indie publishing provides.
