A writer of Christian romance novels, the American author Lori Wick is well known for her unique brand of fiction that’s been capturing the imagination of her many loyal readers who are growing rapidly worldwide for a number of years now. Not constricting herself to any one period in time either, she’s equally well known for her versatility as well as her strength of writing, which has come a long way since her debut novel all the way back in 1990. Whilst her characters may be somewhat typically perfect, she knowingly writes with a sense of idealism that resonates with her and her faith, along with that of her audiences as well.

Early and Personal Life

Being an American author, she grew up taking in a lot inspiration from the world around her, as she had a strong passion in both reading and literature from an early, despite the fact that many of her books have been set in Victorian England, as well as the American West. With a keen eye for characters, she knew what she wanted out of them, thus creating a more idealized version of how she wanted people to be, whilst retaining a sense of relatability in the process too. Not only that, but it was also her faith that informed her as well, something which she also brought through into her writing career as an adult.

Graduating from high-school with a diploma, she always considered herself to be a ‘small town girl’ who was able to write through her faith, something that was bolstered after her spending a few semesters studying in Bible school as well. Through her faith she has managed to find her voice and articulate herself to her ever loyal following of readers, as she has managed to hone and refine her craft over the years with her extensive backlog of novels spanning over decades. This is how she has sent her message, which she feels is done through the grace of god, despite her lack of formal training.

A consistent writer with an equally consistent output, Lori Wick published her first novel in 1989 and has been releasing an average of about two novels a year since then, creating a long and extensive backlog over her vast and impressive career. Living with her family now, she resides with her husband Bob, who she credits as a great source of her inspiration, along with her three children as well, along with her lifelong faith that she’s kept close to her heart. Inspired by those around her, she begun her career in 1988 when she felt she had just had to write her story, and thus her first novel was born.

Living happily married with her family now, she continues to write through her faith and the love of those around her to this day. Through their enthusiasm and encouragement she produces her work that she feels delivers her positively infused message. With plenty more novels planned on the horizon, there’s a lot more books set to be released from now on into the foreseeable future.

Writing Career

First putting pen to paper in 1988 she released her initial debut novel, A Place Called Home, the following year. Introducing to the public at large her status was secured, as she was well on her way to becoming a successful author of great repute. Reaching the top of the best-seller lists on a number of occasions, she has managed to take her appeal far and wide, whilst always remaining true to her roots.

Winning awards as well, she has managed to garner the attention of not only the general public, but critics too. Creating in her now much beloved style, she provides a sense of idealism that comes from her faith, which is something her readers have come to now know and love. This appears to be a trend that isn’t stopping any time soon, as she plans to continue writing for some time yet.

Sophie’s Heart

Originally published on the first of July in 1995, this was to be one of Lori Wick’s earlier entries into her oeuvre. Setting up much of the style and the tone for which Wick was to become famous for, this was one of her better remembered books. With her atypical cast of characters, it manages to capture the essence of what she’s about as an author, providing readers with a clear insight into who she is.

Following the death of his wife the now widowed Alec Riley is left with their children, whilst tending to a broken heart, as he attempts to get their lives in order. That’s when in steps Sophie, a highly educated woman hailing from Czechoslovakia who has come to America in search of a better life. She then meets Alec and, undertaking a position with him, helps keep house for his family, but soon finds that she has feelings for him which are then reciprocated. Will they ever get to be together? Can god and their faith heal them both? What really lies in Sophies heart?

The Princess

Initially published in 1999 on the first of February, this was to be another standalone novel from Lori Wick that got to the top of the best-seller lists as well. Featuring once again good characters having their faith tested, it follows the now well set staples of the formula that Wick has made all her own. The narrative is light and breezy, but that’s not to say that it doesn’t have moments of suspense that will keep the reader engaged until the very end.

Taking place in the Land of Pendaran, this story sees Shelby Parker as a humble princess with a kind heart who is chosen to marry Prince Nikolai. Having been recently widowed himself, he finds that he is tending to a broken heart, which is something that Shelby must overcome if they are to ever truly come together as one. Using their shared faith to guide them both they must deal with what lies ahead with humility and grace if they are to ever move on together. Can they get over the past? Will their faith save them? What will become of the princess?

When God has given her such a talent, I don’t understand why she does not write. If accomplished writer danelle steel can put out so many books and sell them endlessly, why can’t someone with purely wholesome content do the same?

I just finished reading Sophie’s Heart and it was an amazing read. I couldn’t put it down. This book was offered by my library as a “mystery” book–wrapped in brown paper with a short sentence about its type and not knowing what it was about. We got to pick out any brown-wrapped book. I loved this one and am going to see if my library has more of her works.

My favorite series of Lori’s is that of the English Garden. My first read was discovered at a garage sale by my eldest daughter who thought it might help me complete my own book. I had never read a Christian romance novel by this time. “The Rescue” captivated me by the kind conversation between the characters and the way they lived their faith. What an encouragement it has been. Thank you, Lori.

I would very much like to correspond with Lori and express to her my gratitude for her books. I am disappointed beyond words that she has not published any books for several years; her books have been an encouragement to me, and inspiring. I have 36 of her books and read them every year, sometimes twice. They always lift me up!
PLEASE get her to write more books!!

I love Lori’s books. I especially appreciate that they are “clean” books and have a strong Christian tone. I sometimes receive a Word from God through a scripture verse she uses or a statement someone makes.
